Well two things must be kept in mind in:-
1. v-tech only kicks in if its in gear.
2. Every v-tech engine kicks at different rpm some at 3200,some at 5600 and so on...

So as far as in understand ur problem i think it may be thant ur engine does not have that kick start ability at 6000 rpm.
Please check whether ur engine support kick start at 6000+rpm

first check oil level vtec operating range on most Honda's is between
4500rpm-5800rpm if oil is low than the vtec rocker arm will not make
contact camshaft cause it not to function ,or you have a bad variable
timing solenoid.. also some engine faults that cause check engine light
to illuminate will prevent vehicle from hitting vteck

  • Sandeep Gupta Apr 24, 2009

    and yes remember one thing

Vtec only kicks in when the conditions are right

    Correct operating temp on engine

    right temp on coolant

    oil pressure is right
If any one of those is missing or isnt right, vtec wont kick in

  • Sandeep Gupta Apr 24, 2009

well then ur v-teck engine rpm range is less than 6000. Normally v-tch engine have range between 3200-5600rpm
    have u cheked it.

Rev limiter is at 6000rpm not 8500rpm

Hi Peter,

With such high revving engines (me being a Honda fanatic) you need to keep an eye on oil levels. Check the level, top up as necessary. Without the correct amount of oil in, the oil pressure cannot stimulate the switch over cam, which takes it to 8500rpm.

Also, please don't rev you car without load (ie. standing still), this causes valve lash and is detrimental to the engine. Again, please do not rev your car hard without letting the oil get up to temperature or it won't last long :)

Once you check your oil, reset the ECU by pulling the battery lead off for around 20 minutes.

Good luck and have a blast. Could you vote for me if this helps you. Thanks.

Revs erratically

sounds like the rev limiter is kicking in to keep the engine from over rev damage, there should be a way to get the limiter disabled or perhaps get the turbo building boost sooner.

Vtec check

hi you will know if it works it don,t kick in till the engine reachs a certain rev range usually around 3000 rpm then it transferes to the hi lift cam and when it kicks in will feel like a turbos been fitted. if not you have a problem with it which would likley be a problem with its solenoid or oil pressure. yates210456
