Radiator fan runs when engine is off

My 2001 Town & Country's radiator fan turns on by itself after turning off the engine. It finally turned off after 15 minutes, and I'm fearful that it will continue to do this and kill my battery. Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it? Thanks.

Some cars do start up the fan when turned off after they have been driven. as long as it is not starting when the engine is cold there is nothing to worry about. the reason it took 15 mins to shut off is that with the engine not running the water is not being pumped
round the engine thus cooling faster. hope this helps

If the fan runs the battery down by staying on -replace the fan relay.

2001 Nissan xterra temp gauge rises to H when idling?

Dear George,
I'll start with the most common cause.
Check the radiator cooling fan to see if it is functioning correctly.
It is turned on by a sensor that screws into the engine block, and there is also a relay in the under-hood electrical box.
Finally, the electric fan is mounted at the radiator.
There should be 2 fans there, one of them is for engine cooling, one for Air Conditioner cooling.
The engine cooling fan should come on anytime the engine temperature exceeds the setting of the screw-in-the-block sensor.
If it does not, it could be the sensor, the relay, or the cooling fan itself that has failed.
If you live in an area of the country that is prone to extreme cold temperature, "road salt" can contribute to fan failure.
If all these check OK, write us back and tell us, we'll go to step # 2.
God bless your efforts.

Running hot

Remove thermostat and test it by dipping it in cold water ib an open pot. Heat the water on the stove while observing the thermostat. It shold opel just before the water boils. If it does check the radiator itself for clogging. Also fluch the engine water galleries.

I rearended someone and bent my radiator in. It's not leaking but the cooling fan does not turn on now. Does the radiator need to be replaced or the fan? If it's the radiator, is it possible to change...

It is recommended that you replace both the radiator and the fan. I would also probably take it to a body shop have then straighten anything with the body, then replace the radiator yourself. That way you know when you go to put the new radiator in that all the holes line up and everything will find without rubbing.

Why does my 2005 Town & Country radiator fan

The fan is computer controlled and will not come on untill it reaches 212Deg . It should come on though if you turn on the air conditioning, if not you could have a bad fan relay or relay plug.

Fans for radiator wont stop running

The lite came on because the computer saw that there was no power to the cooling fan curcuit. That is monitored by the computer. But to be sure you should have someone read the code for you. Or you can disconnect the battery and it will clear the code. If the lite comes back on the computer is still seeing a problem and you should have it check.
