Engine management light on car runs fine

Service engine soon or check engine light? Engine light needs scanned for codes. Service engine soon is for oil changes and such. To get rid of service lights, turn the key on, press the gas pedal three times within five seconds. The light will flash. turn the key off. it's reset. At least check or change the oil and filter though.

How to reset check engine light on 2008 Chevrolet trailblazer

No, the check engine light will not reset unless cleared with a scan tool or after a lot of key cycles with the problem resolved. You need to get it scanned to see what the code in the system and have it repaired. Most autozones will scan your codes for free - but they just give you the code and their guess of whats wrong with it.

Scan engine why it does not start

Good idea. Just hook up the scanner and turn the key to on.

As long as the ignition switch is receiving power and sending it out with the key in on-do the dash gauges and warning lights come on, and most importantly does the check engine light from the computer turn on? Then you know the computer is powered, so the scanner should work to retrieve any fault codes.
If no codes are present, and the key switch is working, check all fuses, then start checking for gas to the engine and spark at the spark plugs.

try another key, if you install another key with ignition in the on position for 3 seconds warning light off, then turn off ignition switch, then start engine.if engine still dont start and the pats warning light keep flashing and dont turn off in 3 need have vechicle pats system scan at dealership, you need diagnostic equipment to trouble shoot the PATS SYSTEMS.many things will cause you problems like fault to ecm to the immobilizer control module, could have worn transponder on key or faulty read coil in the ignition switch lock cylinder.

When i have the car off with key on, indicator reads out "low oil pressure" if i drive this vehicle like this, can it harm the engine? the "check engine" light is on, i've already...

Without the engine running there is no oil pressure the oil pump is driven by the engine. Therefore with the engine turned off and the key turned to the on position, there is no pressure to read. If the check engine light is on with the engine running, you can have it scanned to determine which system needs attention. Most larger parts stores will scan for free but you need to buy a chilton or haynes manual for code meanings, individual component tests, and repair instructions.. (manuals are usually under $30)

I have a 1998 Chev Tahoe and I'm replacing the keylock cylinder. I'll prob have a prob. with the passlock system. How do I program the key to work?

Well, this is how it's supposed to work but I have had to resort to using a GM specific scan tool when I couldn't get it to relearn.
1. With vehicle in Park, turn the key to the crank position briefly [do not start engine but just bump the starter so the engine turns over about 1/2 a turn] then release the key and let it remain in the "run" position. The security light should flash for a few seconds then stay on for about 10 minutes.
2. At the end of about 10 minutes, the security lights should go off so watch closely. Once it goes off turn the ignition key "off" for about 10 seconds then repeat step 1 two more times which should add up to about 30 minutes total of time spent.
3. After you have finished the 3rd of the 10 minute cycles, leave the key off for about 20 seconds then try and start the engine. If it should be ready to go. If not, then you may need to have someone with a scan tool help you out. Like I say, it SHOULD work but I have found some aftermarket key cylinders that I just can't get to relearn so you may need an OEM cylinder [I would suggest it actually]
Good luck, hope this helps you out.

Have a 1994 legacy.engine light come on. very hard start when cold. fires when key is first turned. have to hit the key over &over to start20-30times. had no problem starting before light come on....

The check engine light coming on tells you something went wrong with a system that runs your engine. A parts store will preform a scan of your
computer to identify the problem area. So you need to access the codes involved in turning on the check engine to proceed with the necessary repairs.

Trying to reset theft system

Can try doing a  relearn process, it is pretty simple and will take 30 minutes, if it'll work for you at all since your problem doesn't sound like a computer issue.
30-Minute Learn Procedure
1. Turn on the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start.
3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10 minutes, the light will turn OFF.
4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and wait 5 seconds.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes.
The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK.

Turn the Ignition Switch OFF.
The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on
the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition
OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code
and/or password.
7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100
ignition cycles.
Without a scan tool you may have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself.

Good luck and hope this help's. keep me posted if you need other ways to disable the passive lock system
