Question about 1999 Mercury Cougar

1 Answer

No pick up when accelerating

I just had a transmission and fuel line flush because my car was dieseling and hummed kind of loud. Now my car has no pickup when merging onto the highway. The pedal is nearly to the ground and the RPM's go over 3. I did not have this problem prior to the flushes.

My D22 pick up has problems accellerating in the 3rd and 4th gear. We checked turbo and a lot of other things without solving the problem. Now I was told it could be the diesel injection pump. Can I c

When there is acceleration problems with diesels it is because there is low torque occurring in that particular rpm range. ( incorrect fuel metering) If you have verified that the turbo is operational then it will be a governor problem in the fuel pump or worn out pump. If it is a common rail diesel the run the fault codes or have an accredited diesel specialist shop check the program in the CPU ( may be corrupted). Blocked or faulty filters will give an indication under heavy load when there is maximum fuel flow required. If it is a rotary pump or in line pump I would be taking it to an accredited diesel specialist and have it properly assessed.

Why is my 99 dodge v10 loosing power up hill and making a rattling sound?

Hi Mallory, You have omitted to give us many details o the truck. If you are dealing with an older model petrol vehicle, the problem may well be to do with the ignition timing if it is diesel, it could be to do with the replacement filter fitted or a blockage in fuel delivery. It does not sound as if there is any defect with the transmission! Take the vehicle back to the service agency and tell them of the difference in performance before and after servicing. If the engine is petrol tell them to check the plugs and firing order. If its diesel, tell them to check on delivery and find out exactly what work they carried out and to what part of the engine. Does the Kia Sedona 2.9 diesel, 53 plate (2003) have a fuel pump in or near the fuel tank? It wont start and it used to make a faint humming when you put key in ignition as though it was pressurising the...

i have tried a search and i cannot find where the 02 sedona offered a diesel option motor, i found only one available motor and that was a 3.5 sfi , well that pump is in the tank. Did you try and put diesel fuel in this vehicle? as it wont run on diesel.and its possible it fried the pump. but you will have to drain tank and flush fuel lines if this is the case.

How do you drain the fuel from a 2000 VW New

this is a common mistake, when i was selling cars i must have put gas in 20 diesel can run a diesel car with about 10%gas in the fuel with the only problem being hot starting and slower acceleration,(it is common for garages to tell customers that the whole system needs flushing, this is bollox,)NATO tanks run on 30%gas/diesel mix in arctic conditions(stops fuel from freezing and is less volatile than gas alone(takes a lot to burn diesel out of a pressurised container...) just use low power until you can refill with high octane gas...(diesel mixes with gas,it doesnt float on the surface or sink filters are not affected either...))

Loud squeaking and rattling when you accelerate after a stop

Is the underside rusty? If so, take it to a qualified welding and autobody repair shop to have new metal welded on.

Your symptoms sound like the engine or transmission mounts may have deteriorated.
