The complexity of the electronics on this vehicle , electronic throttle control ,
The throttle actuator control (TAC) module is the control center for the throttle actuator control system. The TAC system is self-diagnosing and provides diagnostic information to the powertrain control module (PCM) through a dedicated serial data line. The TAC achieves throttle positioning by providing a pulse width modulated voltage to the TAC, as directed by the PCM.
The data link connector (DLC) allows a scan tool to communicate with the class 2 serial data line. The serial data line is the means by which the microprocessor-controlled modules in the vehicle communicate with each other. Once the scan tool is connected to the class 2 serial data line through the DLC, the scan tool can be used to monitor each module for diagnostic purposes and to check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Class 2 serial data is transmitted on a single wire at an average of 10.4 kbps. This value is an average, class 2 uses a variable pulse width modulation to carry data and depending on the message it may operate faster or slower. The bus will float at a nominal 7 volts during normal operation. Each module can pull this lower during the transmission. The bus is not at battery positive voltage or ground potential during normal operation. When the ignition switch is in RUN, each module communicating on the class 2 serial data line sends a state of health (SOH) message every 2 seconds to ensure that the module is operating properly. When a module stops communicating on the class 2 serial data line, for example if the module loses power or ground, the SOH message it normally sends on the data line every 2 seconds disappears. Other modules on the class 2 serial data line, which expect to receive that SOH message, detect its absence; those modules in turn set an internal DTC associated with the loss of SOH of the non-communicating module. The DTC is unique to the module which is not communicating, for example, when the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) SOH message disappears, several modules set DTC U1088. Note that a loss of serial data DTC does not normally represent a failure of the module that set it.

I have a 04 tahoe and at times when i turn the ignition on the gauges don't move and when I'm driving they will jump on and off can someone explain this


If it is all the gauges , I would pull the instrument cluster an check the connections on the back of the instrument cluster . I would also check power an grounds , you would need to find a pin out chat to do this. If you don't know what that is , It's just a diagram of the connector show what each terminal is for ! Also do a wiggle test on the wiring ! Do the dash lights do the same thing ?

All the gauge settings are information determined by the PCM - engine computer , the info is sent to the instrument cluster by a serial data communication network !
Speedometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed on the analog speedometer based on the vehicle speed signal from the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM converts the data from the vehicle speed sensor to a 4,000 pulses/mile signal. The IPC uses the vehicle speed signal circuit from the PCM in order to calculate the vehicle speed.
The speedometer defaults to 0 km/h (0 mph) if a malfunction in the vehicle speed signal circuit exists.
Tachometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine speed on the analog tachometer based on the engine speed signal from the powertrain control module (PCM). The IPC uses the engine speed signal circuit -- 2 pulses/engine revolution -- from the PCM in order to calculate the engine speed.
The tachometer defaults to 0 RPM if a malfunction in the engine speed signal circuit exists
Voltmeter
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the system voltage as determined by the body control module (BCM). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the BCM indicating the battery voltage. When the engine is ON, the gage should be between 10-16 volts.
PRNDL Display
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the selected gear position as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the gear position. The PRNDL display blanks if:
Fuel Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the fuel level as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel level percent. The fuel gage defaults to empty if:

You may want to take this to a ASE certified repair shop or " oh no " The Chevy dealer ! I don't know why people dislike the dealer so much . I worked at one for a number of years an we had a good bunch of technicians ! No body knows your GM vehicle better !

Where is a bcm located on a 03cad.cad.deville?


You can not reset a BCM ! If there is a problem with one of the systems associated with the BCM . It has a DTC stored in memory ! Besides your vehicle does not have a BCM ! It has three modules !
The body control system consists of the following 3 modules:

Each of the 3 body control modules integrate a number of functional systems under the control of a single module. Each module is connected to the Class 2 serial data circuit, many of the control functions are implemented by Class 2 messages.

The various DIM input and output circuits are described in the corresponding functional areas as indicated on the DIM electrical schematics.
The DIM functions include the following:

On vehicles that have several control modules connected by serial data circuits, one module is the power mode master (PMM). On this vehicle the PMM is the DIM. The PMM receives 4 signals from the ignition switch.

On some vehicles, if the powertrain control module (PCM) is unable to communicate with the vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) system after the vehicle has started, the PCM will consider the VTD system to be malfunctioning. The PCM will enter a fail enable state and will command the security indicator to illuminate. When the PCM is in a fail enable state, the vehicle will NOT stall or stop running. If the PCM is in a fail enable state when the ignition is switched OFF, the PCM will remain fail enable until communications with the VTD system has been restored. When the PCM is in a fail enable state, the VTD system is NOT active and the vehicle will start. This feature is NOT available on all GM vehicle lines.

2002 Montero Sport 4X2 jerks during and after shifting into 3rd or fourth gear. Particularly bad going uphill. Not so bad during hard acceleration. Have changed fuel filter, plugs, etc. Even changed center...


Check the 'U' joints in the drive line. Check the engine/transmission mounts for damage or looseness. The real enigma is trying to determine if this is an engine or a chassis problem. If the check engine light is on, doing a scan of the computer should show engine problems. If no light, concentrate on anything in the chassis for periodic binding. Good luck!

it means the tire is in danger of contacting the inner fender, is it low in front on the right side? if not the ride height sensor is most likely defective.

1999 Toyota Camry Idle Problems on Hot days


Clean the IAC. Disconnect throttle body air hose and you will see a hole on the bottom of the throttle body just before the butterfly valve. Spray throttle body cleaner down the IAC hole and then let it soak about 1/2 hour. Reconnect hose and run engine about a minute and then repeat this process 2 or more times. Toyota engines from 1997-2005 commonly have the IAC get cruded up with carbon as early as 35,000 miles. This is a sImple and cheap repair that many repair shops don't want you to know.
