You'd replace the whole pump, but check to see if there is any power from the plug on the ac pump before doing anything. If there's power it should atleast make an attempt to work.

I have the same problem with my Durango AC. I called the dealer and they do have clutch for my compressor available. I wonder how big of a job it can be. I got my A/C Charged thinking I am low on compressor gas only to find out after 135 dollars that it is my clutch that is not engaging. Cost of new compressor and labor factor added to it get to be a scary sum of money for 1998 model. Any one knows how to replace this clutch? Is it the front bold that is holding the entire clutch? Help amin

Your AC man got to you if he said he charged your AC unit and then told you the Compressor was out.
The compressor has to be working to charge the AC unite.
He lied to you ;-((

Wont turn over. Has power, everything comes on but when you turn ignition to start, it does nothing!

Check the fuses in the main fuse box under the hood. Look for a fuse marked starter or starter relay. The easiest way to get the a/c clutch to engage is to jump the connecter that goes to the low pressure switch, which is located close to the firewall on the larger diameter a/c line.

My AC is not blowing cool air. Compressor clutch is not getting engaged. AC button is showing green light indicator though. I am suspecting clutch relay problem. where is air conditioning clutch relay in...

First of all check the freon pressure, if the pressure is low the compressor clutch will not turn on. The pressure should be between 30-40 PSI.

Compressor on 96 dodge caravan will not start even after charging system with freon. does computer have to be reset

check for bad fuse under hood. also check for ac relay issue. also under hood . you will find a power dis. center under the hood. (just like a fuse panel)the system does use pressure switches, but check the fuse and relay first. if you have power and ground at the compressor and it does not engage, then the ac clutch is bad. you can check that at the two wires at ac compressor w/ a test light.

Is there a resistor or relay switch that sends power to start compressor

There is probably an a/c clutch relay in the fuse and relay box. The most common reason for the a/c clutch not engaging is a low charge though. Have you hooked gauges up?

My air conditioning stopped blowing cold how do you put in freon

turn on the a/c and look under the hood. if the compressor clutch is not turning then it would be low on freon gas. also check the fuse and a/c relay to see if they are blown out.

2000 dodge durango blinkers wont work

try checking the Relay in the fuse box under the hood, and there is also one up under the dash, if you dont hear the relay click with you put power to it then pop it out then try a new one. a lot of times it could be the relay but you still get power to the fuse. cause the relay clicks closed and locks that way. if not that check for power at the blinker, take the bulb out turn the blinker on and see if there is a voltage change there if not then it could be a bad ground or line under the hood.

Screeching noise, then a/c stops blowing cold air. Still blows air, just not cold air.

it could be the air conditioning clutch going out. to check turn your car on and idle it with ac on and hood open. at the ac compressor it will have a pulley on it with a clutch that engages when the air conditioning is on. if it engages and disengages it can be the clutch itself has gone bad, the ac clutch will also disengage if there is not enough freon in the ac system, will also engage and disengage if the pressure gets too high in the ac system. Depending on the year of the vehicle it will disengage at full throttle and come back on when you are not at full throttle.
If it is a metallic sounding screech for example take a coke can and drag it across pavement kind of sound it could be a bad compressor or a bad ac clutch. If it is a more rubbery sound for example a car spinning its tires kind of noise it could be a loose belt.

1. Check to make sure all belts are tight under hood
2. start car and look at ac compressor to make sure compressor pulley is turning and that the fan clutch is engaged spinning
