Question about 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

Door locks continually locking on Dodge Caravan

I have a 1999 Dodge Grand Caraven that the door locks will automatically lock and continue to lock every minute or so. If I let the car sit for more than one day without driving it, the battery is drained from the continiual locking and "clicking" of the door locks engaging. When I do start the van after a few hours of driving it, now all the buttons (ie: ac/defrost, recirculate, rear washer and wipers, etc) on the center console flash off and on for about 5-10 minutes. Does anyone have any suggetstions? -GI JOE

Why has the key on passenger side door suddenly stopped activating the lock on my 1999 Dodge Van Caravan? It functions well with the automatic all-locks' feature.

As you rotate the lock cylinder on that door it touches a switch that unlocks the rest of the doors. Check the condition of that switch.

When I put the key in door to unlock it locks and unlocks and continues this while I have the key in lock when I remove key it locks putting the security feature on.

You either have a bad "arm/disarm" switch or the switch has fallen off from the lock cylinder.

What is happening is the security system is not receiving the disarm signal when you unlock the door with the key. It thinks the car is being stolen so it continues to lock the lock to prevent this.

There arm/disarm switch is clipped onto the door lock cylinders on the front doors and the rear hatch. If it does the same thing with the other doors than there may be an issue with the security system. If the other doors work fine than I would pull the door panel (I assume you are getting this problem with the drivers front door) and inspect the switch.

That sound is going to be your door lock motors wearing out. I would suggest getting them replaced pretty quickly as they will soon stop locking altogether. It's not cheap, but it isn't horribly expensive either.

This is a common issue with the 2005 Caravan. To fix the issue you can disconnecting your battery or disconnect the IOD fuse for 10 - 30 seconds in the fuse box located in the engine compartment. This is not a permant fix. Inorder to get this fixed permantly you need to take it to a dealer so they can update your computer.

Look for contacts at door jamb & door, that mate when closed.( usually round metal piece) Take a piece of fine steel wool & scrub them and see if that cures it.
