Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

When I hit the brake pedal both flasher lights light on dash and my right rear brake, blinker, backup and running lights all come on in a dimmed state and they all flicker. Each bulb is new and each light works perfectly when activated separately. When the brakes are applied the dimmed flickering problem is created. Help?!? Is this the flasher unit, the brake light switch or ....? Brian

You have lost a ground, and the brake lamps are grounding through the other lamps' elements. Check the grounds on both tail-lamps.

Most likely this is a brake light switch issue. Replace switch.

If your emergency flashers don't work, all flasher bulbs are fine, but flashing too fast, then check and replace Hazard light switch.

Third brake light stays on; brakelights very dim; radio, clock, flasher emblem on dash blink when turn signals are used; signals flash fast when brake pedal is applied.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere in the brake circuit. May be between the brakes and the blinkers in the brake lights.

Where is the flasher relay unit

1ST double check that all the bulbs for the pass. side turn signals are working. if even one is out it can make the blinker not "blink". so compare the pass. side lights to the driv. side to make sure u did not miss something. NEXT,if thats not the problem, then u can locate the flasher by 1ST looking in the fuse box(probably inside the glove box or under the drivers side dash) theres a good chance it might not be there(years ago every car had the flasher in the fuse box) SO TURN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BLINKER (key on) and LISTEN OR FEEL UNDER THE DASH FOR THE FLASHERS NOISE--LOOK NEAR THE STEERING COLUMN,BRAKE PEDAL, EVEN BEHIND THE ASH TRAY!! hope this helps you!

2001 Olds Silouhette - The blinker on the dash blinks quickly

NO PROBLEM TURN ON THE RIGHT BLINKER THEN WALK AROUND THE CAR MAKE SURE FRONT AND REAR BULBS ARE FLASHING... IF YOU HAVE A BULB OUT YOU WILL NOT OFFER ENOUGH OF A LOAD TO THE FLASHER... WILL CAUSE IT TO FLASH FAST... IF OK THEN MAKE SURE THE PROPER BULB NUMBER ON BULBS AND MAKE SURE CORRECT BULBS USED IN VEHICLE.... IF OK CHANGE FLASHER

89 Honda Accord brake light and turn signal seem connected

Looks as though you have earthing problems.
I would make sure that the earthing is O.K on flasher and brake.
You would then find your symptom disappear.

Hope that sorts it.
