Car cut out while driving lose power

Hello, just the begin with I'm no good with cars... Basically i noticed after my first motorway drive in a W reg peugeot 106 1.1L that there was a small oil leak (not sure where from) and recently it has been randomly losing power and chugging in 1st gear unless i change to 2nd gear and on the odd occasion it does it in second as well. anyone got any idea what could be causing it?

Hmmmm tough one without putting it on a diagnostic machine, I would suspect the crank sensor or the distributer issues not sure of the year of your car, whether it is carby or efi, if carby model, then possible blocked jets, {recon it}, i would get it on a diagnostic reader to be more accurate, hope this helps a bit. Good luck.

Still a tough one, if the car has alot of miles on it, it could also be blocked fuel injectors, buy a bottle of injector cleaner and double down on the amount it says to use on the bottle, I would start with some easy things first like checking the plug wires, cleaning and regaping the plugs, its possible that the coil pack may be failing too, like I said, get it on a diagnostic machine while its still running, because it will cost a lot more if it dies on you and you never get it diagnosed , it will sit in your back yard untill you win the lottery right? anyway scoot down and get it checked for peace of mind, at least then you know what you have to spend on it. good luck.

My engine will suddenly cut out whilst driving, but usually when I am waiting at lights?

if it cuts out when at lights or stop signs and your foot is on the brake , it is very possible that the brake booster is leaking air
test that by running the engine at idle with the hand brake on and if it is ok but fails when you apply the foot brake , then replace the booster
the advice to run the engine on a long drive is not really good advice as the ECM ( if it is fuel injected) will reset the tuning level for the new fuel with in 5 minutes of constant speed driving

Lose in momentum or power when motorway driving. Seems to happen between 70-85. No Engine lights or even a hange in the rev counter... Even my girlfriend noticed it when she drove it.

don't ignore simple maintenance issues which can cause minor problems like this. namely a filthy air filter, or restricted fuel filter.

Electrical probblems are always the hardest to solve. I don't believe it to be the ecu, because when one fries it doesn't work at all but that may be the case. I believe from what you describe there is a short somewhere between an important censor and the ecu, like mas, 02 or throttle positioning censors. Ive also come across cases of which the catalytic converter was clogged making the car not operate correctly. Hope this helps.

its probably your bump stops. the vw ones are very soft. i bought ford escort (the shape after the xr3) ones and cut them a little down to fit. i think the noise is either your shock touching or the sound of the tire scraping the body of the car. hope this helps.
