The key lock cylinder operates the ignition switch sometimes ignition switch is separate sorry I didn't find where ignition switch is located if the lock cylinder is plugged into it.

I am not sure of the correct tool name but it is a female torx with a male pin in the center. You have to remove the cover, and then you should see the screws on the left side, not the ignition cylinder side,. I had to change one from a pontiac grand prix and I had to go buy a set of the male/female torx to change it. After I changed it, I changed the screws to phillips so if the ignition switch needed changed again, I only needed a screw driver.

The plastic ignition actator (plastic gear drive) has lost the steel pin pressed on the end of it. This thing connects the mechanical key ignition switch to the electrical ignition switch(with pin gone will push ignition on BUT with pin gone cannot PULL ign. switch to off position),the whole steering column will have to be removed from truck to replace.Availible from Ford or parts stores--ASK for plastic ignition actuator-metal one is for 1987 to 1991 F150s.
