Brake light relay

2001 ford tarus sedan. Wont shift from park. brake lights not working. When i go down and push up on the relay switch attached to brake pedal it solves the problem. as soon as i press on the brake pedal once the problem returns. What is causing this? Is that switch operated by a spring that has broke off? What cause this to operate correctly?

There's a switch on the brake pedal arm that turns the light on when you press the brake pedal.
The switch needs to be adjusted or replaced.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Merecedes C270 - the foot operated parking brake,

Hi :)
Very common problem do loads. You need to lubricate the handbrake linkage under the rear seats ( the bit ur bum goes on). If you have a estate car then the seats will flip up but if its a saloon car then you will have to remove 2 13mm nuts for either side seat. When ur under there, u will see a little black panel in the middle, remove it 2 8mm self tappers and a 13mm nut. right you should now see the linkage where the cable splits to either side of the car. Get a load of wd-40 and spray whilst some else operates the handbrake 100 times or so. sorted! Dont forget to adjust the handbrake at the wheels after, go all the way with the adjust and back off two clicks either side.
Hope this works and good luck1

Check your brake lights, if they don\'t work the interlocking system will not let you shift from park. If brake lights don\'t work probably the brake lamp switch on the pedal shaft. Check power in and out of switch when stepping on pedal, if nothing coming out, swi

Wont shift out of park

Look under the dash, on the brake pedal arm. There are one or two switches that activate brakes lights and shift unlock. Check for loose mounting nut or a missing rubber nubber. Look on the floor for something not usually found there. These switches are adjustable and it may be as simple as adjusting them. Have a helper look for brake lights on and shift lever unlocked while you push and release the switches with your finger. Depress the brake pedal to get it out of the way. Remember to set the park brake first. Could just be a bad switch or loose connector.

Gear shift in 2001 ford expedition stuck in park wont shift

Check under the dash at the top of the brake lever. There are some plastic switches which can get hit by your feet. Since you have to step on the brake pedal to shift the transmission out of Park, that switch is probably broken or out of place.

You can have someone look at the brake lights and see if they light up when the pedal is pressed. Chances are that circuit is not working so the electric release for the gearshift will not work.

2001 Escort ZX2: it wont go out of park...

There is a safety lock-out that keeps you from taking the car out of gear if you don't push the brake. If your brake lights still work then the switch is good. Also, some people have reported that if the high mount brake light is bad it will keep the car from being shifted out of park. If all of your brake lights work then the solenoid is bad. Remove the center console to get to the solenoid. Since the solenoid is expensive most people just zip-tie the solenoid open so that you don't have to push the brake to shift it from park.

My 2001 ford focus is stuck in park, stepping on brake, does not release it from park, and brake lights are not working.........

Without the brake lights working the shift interlock can't release. Turn the key just off the "locked" position and you should be able to shift to neutral and start the engine then shift to drive or reverse. Just don't shift back into park until you are parking the car to leave it.

check all fuses,if okay check to see if brake lights work, if they work then you may have a bad shift release soleniod or maybe its just dirty and sticking.

Ford Expedition 2001 that wont shift out of Park

Shift Interlock System
The shift interlock system prevents the shifting from PARK unless the brake pedal (2455) is depressed. The shift interlock system consists of a shift lock actuator (3Z719) mounted at the base of the steering column tube (3514). If the ignition switch (11572) is in the RUN position, the shift lock actuator is continually on unless the brake pedal is depressed.

Thier is also the shift lock actuator ! plus wiring . You have a short to ground on that circuit . Do you know how to Find a short ? videos on youtube .
None of the power windows work ? Check for broken wires inside the rubber boot from the body to drivers door !
Videos on youtube for testing power window circuits .

My 07 suzuki forrenza will not shift out of park without inserting a key in. The shift lock realease

My wife had 2007 suzuki forenza with the same problem , I look it over, the problem was the brake light switch. I Bought a new one at suzuki dealer in orlando for $15.10 part # 37740-86z21 and replaced it my self , it took less than 5 munites to replace.works great now.The reason the gear would not shift out of park is that the brake switch has to send a signal to the relay switch on the gear shifter to remove the shift lock .If this switch is not working it can not send that signal to the relay.Another way you can tell it is the brake light switch is that your rear brake light would not work .You can also bypass this and use your car until you get the brake light switch , here how .look at your gear shifter and locate a small oval shaped cut out (it may have shift lock written next to it ).take a small flat screw driver or some thing Similar and pry out that little plastic incert .Then when you start your car and you are about to shift out of park place a key of any a small screw flat driver into the hole and push down and shift out of park.Once out of park you can shift to any gear if you return the shifter to park you would have to incert the screw driver again. If you need to locate the brake light switch just follow your brake pedal up under the dash board it will be a small white plastic switch attached above the btrke pedal .IT is very simple to replace ,when you locate it just twist it anti clock wise and it will come off , then press the clip in the plug and remove the brake switch from the wire harness. To replace the new one just press the brake pedal down place the switch back where the old one came off and twist clock wise until it snaps into place.and replace the wire plug.REMBER When you get your new brake switch DO NOT press it down or it will get stuck.IF this happens just pull it back it out.and do not buy this part at any auto parts store because the connecter woul be smaller .go to a suzuki dealer ....THEN WHEN YOU FIX THIS PROBLEM GET RID OF THE CAR THIS IS ONLY THE START FOR PROBLEMS TO COME ...GOOD LUCK..

shift lockout is usually deactivated when your brake pedal is pushed down, so the switch must be bad, do your brake lights work fine? alot of time it uses the same switch. you can see the switch if u look at your brake pedal right above where u place your foot there is a metal bar that attaches it, the switch will be on there. Best of luck
