SOURCE: 1998 Plymouth Neon only "clicks" when you try to start it.

Hello;
Check the voltage at the battery. It should be in the 12.5+ volt range. Check your connections also to be sure they are clean and tight. A quick check to see if there is enough juice to crank the engine over is to turn the ignition switch to start and at the same time honk the horn. If the horn blows and the starter does not crank, you probably have a bad starter.
The starter is located on the radiator side of the engine block and is held to the transaxle by 2 bolts. Follow the positive cable to the starter. Hope this helps;
Thanks;

SOURCE: i have a 99 plymouth

It sound like you might need a new battery. What you need to do is remove the battery and take it your local auto parts store and have them quick charge your battery then apply a load test on the battery.

If your battery is OK. Then there are a couple things that could go wrong. No voltage from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. Next is the starter solenoid has gone south faster than Willy Coyota can catch the Road Runner. If both are bad then each needs to be replaced or fixed. Also one more thing the alternator gone south. Get you can running and check the voltage across the battery while the car is running it should be about 13.8 to 14.1 volts. GB...stewbison

Battery has a full charge, but the solenoid just "clicks" when i try to start it

the contacts inside the starter solenoid that power up the starter are burnt, this is a common issue on this starter design, you can replace just the solenoid or just replace the whole starter.

Setting the timing on a 1999 plymouth neon

The best way for you to do this is to go to a autostore and buy the repair manual for a 95-99 dodge/plymouth neon. That will help you better, because you have to pull apart the front of the motor (passanger side). Its not as hard as it sounds. 90% chance your engine is a sohc. If needed i can give you the complete directions for doing this but easer for you to see it in the book.
hope this helps
