My 2005 Impala gearshift button has popped out. I have to reinsert it each time I need to shift. Any way I can fix the existing shifter without replacing the whole thing?

Check with your local chevrolet dealer, you may be able to purchase just the button assembly any hardware required. If not ductape or electrical tape may work for you. Or a short drive to your local pick and pull may be another option.

SOURCE: hard shifting Impala, sometimes.

Sounds like the vacumn modulator isn't connected. Like the hose has come off, or there is a tear in the hose. (4t60-E transmission)

4t65-E transmission is a different ballgame. Check the electrical connector to the side of the tranny. Make sure it's plugged in tight, and there is no corrosion on the connectors. Past this point it's time to check sensors. WSS, (Wheel Speed Sensor), and VSS, (Vehicle Speed Sensor)
Make sure these connections aren't corroded, and are on tight on both transmissions.
(Don't know which one you have. 4t60-E, or 4t65-E. I suspect you have the 4t60-E. It will state this on the transmission oil pan in raised letter/numbers)

2005 Impala gear shift button popped out. I have to put it back in each time I need to shift to D, R, etc. How can I remedy this problem without replacing the whole gearshift?

Re-attaching the knob to the gearshift is the key...Look for a hole on the lower section of the knob...if you cannot see it...remove the bottom chrome piece from the knob, (pry apart carefully not to scratch the chrome housing...you should see the small hole normally includes a small allen insert screw or Phillips screw...must be screwed in to the gear shift shaft to hold in place...if you cannot compare...visit a local salvage yard to experiment..."Pic A Part" is a national self help salvage yard. Hope this helps. If the button does not stay in the gear shift knob...you can replace the knob (with button) only...remove the knob as described above. Hope this helps.

The gearshift on my 2005 hyundai sonata gearshift is locked. where is the release button?

The release is located inside of the shifter housing. It can be accessed through a small hole, possibly covered with a small plastic cover, near the shifter. Insert punch into hole, depress release and shift out of park.

2010 impala, shifter won't go out of park.

You either have a sticking Gearshift Interlock Solenoid or there is a problem with your brake light circuits. Check to see if your brake lamps are working.

My 2005 Altima is stuck in park. Automatic transmission, low miles starts right up and steering wheel is not locked. Help please!!!

http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/2005-2006-nissan-altima-se-r-discussion/225903-shift-lock.html

your owner's manual will tell you how to over-ride the shift lock. ususally there is a hole covered by a plastic piece, next to the shifter. pop out the cover and push the button to shift. The shifter will lock back up in park until you fix the problem. You may want to set the parking brake and use neutral when you park the car instead of " Park". That way you will not have to push the release button-it will eventually break.

make sure your brake lights work; as the shift lock is powered by the brake light fuse-replace as needed.

The shifter of my 2005 Nissan Titan is stuck

If you have the console shift (gear selector in between the seats) there is a shift release button. Nest to the shifter there is a round cover, about dime size. Take a small flat screwdriver and carefully pop that out. Under that cover is a button, you push it and it should release the shifter.

I have a 2005 impala it will not come out of netural or drive into park i think its the button on the side of the shifter please let me know how to fix this thank you

It could be a couple of things. The first thing i would check is to make sure the brake lights work. The shift interlock requires a signal from the brake light switch to allow the shifter to move. If the switch dosn't work the shifter will be stuck in park.

There should be an shift interlock override somewhere near the shifter for situations such as this. Look in your owners manual for a more detailed location and instructions on using the override.

The gear shift won't go out of park i has also push the reset button

The solenoid that operates the cable to unlock the shifter is activated by the brake light circuit, 1st thing to do is verify the brake lights work, if they don't then that is the problem, if they do then the gear shifter release solenoid is at fault.
