Question about 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLK 300

1 Answer

Skidding on wet days in a 2010 Merc SLK300 at low speeds around corners, shimmying when going straight through a puddle. I drove an automatic Y reg SLK320 for 9 years without this problem. I have only had this manual SLK since February and haven't driven it much because of a shoulder injury but that is getting better & I am driving it more. I am really worried about driving this car safely in the winter. I have been driving for 38 years so I am not inexperienced.

My husband has already checked the tyres and he thinks they are ok. I was wondering if it might be a weight problem, if this model is lighter than my previous car. Would putting some bricks in the boot help?

My car had mud & snow tyres on when we bought it, unbeknownst to us. We have changed the tyres to normal ones and the problem has thankfully been solved.

SOURCE: Car sat for 5 days not driven, now get "Stop car too low" error

Sounds like you may have a leak in the airmatic suspension struts on the rear. These govern the height of the car in different modes. Not an immediate problem unless you are loosing a visible amount of fluid but it will only get worse.

To check if you have airmatic you will have buttons just behind the gear lever which can be used to put the car in to a stiffer, lower mode or to raise it for rough ground

All the electrical plugs should be weather pack plugs. this type of water and the low pressure of it, shouldn't get into them. If it was a lot of water, check the air filter. If it is misfiring, check spark plugs wires and or coil boots. which ever you have.

Brakes grabing on komatsu forklift

\If there is no evidence of leaks (low brake fluid) or axle seal hub wet I would test drive at 3/4 throttle in reverse and try to lock up the brakes, does it leave an even skid? Does the brake pedal feel normal? Sometimes wet (drove thru a puddle) or higher humidity makes them noisy or grabby (cast iron drums rusty inside) and can be run hard with multiple stops to correct, or you can pull the wheels, axles and drums to inspect.

I had a similar problem, it turned out to be the front U joints. Have them checked very soon! I drove mine for a while before fixing and my tires were ready to fall off. Could have caused a very bad accident.

HAVE VECHICLE CODE SCAN SOUND LIKE FAULTY WHEEL SPEED SENSOR.WHEN YOU SEE LOW TRAC LIGHT YOU ABS BRAKE SYSTEM IS ADJUSTING BRAKE PRESSURE TO KEEP CAR FROM SKIDDING LIKE WHEN YOU ARE ON SLIPPERY WET ROADS OR ICE. IF YOU SEE LOW TRAC LIGHT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM IN ABS BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM.

I had flat tire yesterday ,put on the spare then drove on freeway the slip light came on once i got to a certain speed and the car brakes wont allow me to go faster than 45mph now

your abs/ anti skid sensors are reading that one tire is spinning faster than the others, due to a smaller tire in one corner of the vehicle, it is actually confusint the cpu into thinking the tire is actually skidding, hence, it is compensating for what it is programmed to believe is a hazourdous condition.

My SAAB 9-5 2.3 Automatic (V Reg) cuts out at low speed

Take a look at the accessories belt.... does the battery and/or check engine light's on? This belt activates water pump (check temperature gage...), power steering pump (heavy steering...), a/c compressor (a/c working?) and alternator (battery recharging)... of course!

Hope it will help you, even if my english isn't terrible...

Transmission quit shifting after going through a shallow puddle

Probably got water into connections for electronics. They have to be dried out. Don't know what facilities you have available to you as far as compressed air, or heat concentrated on area. I would make a point of removing them, or having it done & cleaning them well, and adding di-electric grease to those connections to hopefully avoid same again.
