The rear lamps could have been installed backwards (if replaced) or swapped. Yes, it does happen. Also, there could be a missing ground connection.

SOURCE: THE BRAKE LIGHT WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND THE

well here's a start towards ur problem, due to the auto circuits u have an open return to the negative side of the battery. Have you done anything with the vehicle's systems before this started? the reason fo the strange lighting is that a positive voltage is being applied to what normally would be return side. You will need to get an electrical diagram if possible to pin point area if as previously asked didn't occur.

SOURCE: 1996 Toyota T100, right tail light does not work

I would check ground, by providing a seperate ground wire, if light returns to normal, see if you can find the original ground wire and repair it

SOURCE: no brake light one side

It is likely that the bulb is just out as the left and right brake lights would be on the same circuit. Unless there is a strange wiring issue simply replacing the bulbs should correct your problem.

The brake light on the driver side is not working when the headlight are off, when the headlight are on the are fine.

Replace the brake bulb for that side. The brake bulbs have two filaments. Don't put the single ones. One is for when you press the brakes and the other is for when you run the lights at night it stays on all the time.

On My 1998 Toyota Camy when the car is on my brakes lights wont go off but if the car its off the brake light work fine why??

These Toyotas had daytime running lights. The headlights and the taillights turn on when you start the car. If you press the brake pedal, the rear lights (and the brake light in the rear window) should come on brighter.

I have never heard of the brake light staying on (The brighter filament in the two-filament bulb). Hope this helps.

Brake lights stay on when headlights are switched on

Are you sure its the brake lights? may "possibly" have the wrong bulb(dual filament style bulb) may have the brighter of the two filaments coming on for the lights, and the dimmer of the two on for brake lights!

It may sound silly, but check your brake light bulbs to see if they have been installed incorrectly. Brake light bulbs have two filaments, one for tail light, and a brighter one for brake lights. On some cars if the bulb is installed wrong, the brighter filament will stay on for tail lights. The only other thing I can think of is the wrong bulbs have been installed.

My brakes lights stay on when my headlights are on, but the brake lights work fine when my headlights are off. Do you know what may be the problem?

This problem likely is the filaments touching in one of the dual filament bulbs used for the brake lights. Another sign of this would be the dash illumination lights coming on when the headlights are off and the brake pedal is pressed. The solution is to replace the defective bulb.

Rear window break light

You either have a 'single filament' bulb installed in a 'dual filament' brake lamp socket ... OR .. you have a 'dual filament' bulb short circuited internally. Check your rear brake lamp bulbs (supposed to be 'dual filament' - two contacts on their bottoms). When you step on the brake pedal, do your dash lights LIGHT UP? A 'cross circuit' exists between brake lamp circuit and parking lamps circuit.

Only headlights work, 91 4dr EX

ok supaxang, could this solution be as simple as replace the 2 rear bulbs? The brake light and tail light (parking light) are the same bulb, 2 filaments, one for brakes, one for tail lights. If the the tail light filament burns out, the brake light will continue to work ok. It is quite possible that both tail lights burned out, and the brake light filaments are good and still working. Replace w/ bulb #2057. Let me know if this fixes it, if not, I'll keep working on it.
