Question about Cars & Trucks
Try to get a copy of parts schematic from the Mazda dealer for the rear brake parts . Check on line to see if that diagram is available on free download. Check the aftermarket brake spares to see if you can get a copy. Or buy a workshop manual for your car.from a auto spares shop.

On the accents what you need to do is to remove the plastic casing from around the parking brake mechanism. Towards the back on each side there is a screw that needs to come out. Then you will just need to wiggle the plastic casing out and around from the parking brake and set it aside with the screws. Once that is off on the inside there will be what looks like one long (gold colored) screw and at the bottom there will be a mini cable running off to each side. At the end of the tension adjuster is where you adjust it. Mine was very loose and I had to tighten it down quite a bit. It takes a 12 MM wrench. You will want to turn the wrench toward the passenger side to tighten it down. Hope this works for you.

There should be an adjuster next to the handbrake lever. You may have to remove some trim to see it but it is in the general area of the lever.

Check your rear brake adjust; maybe the cable is work fine, but the regulation in your rear brakes is bad.
For details DIY review the repair guide: ZJ-Secc-5-Brakes
- page 12 Rear Drum Brakeshoe Adjust and next;
- page 44 Parking Brake Service.
Good luck (remember rated this help).
