Have you checked to see if you have spark to the plugs? I have found that on some Explorers , the primary voltage to the coil was not there. I know it sounds complicated, but it's not. You have a 4 wire connector at the coil pack. One of the wires has battery voltage going to it. When this wire is checked with a voltmeter when the key is on ,it will show 12 volts. When this wire is checked while cranking the voltage may drop to 9 volts or less. This is "NO GOOD'. If you find this, rewire a jumper from Batt to this wire. Should result in a start and run. Good luck Moe

I guess when you are saying will not crank means is not starting .
You have to make sure all the wires are connected correctly and in the right firing order.
I would guess there has to be a loose wire some where. There is no special procedure when changing out the parts.

SOURCE: my 2002 Ford Explorer wont crank!

I'm assuming the coilpack got wet!! Check if there is any power to the coil before changing. If thats fine, replace the coil. If there is no power, check your electrical circuit for the coil. Hopefully this helps

Why wont my 1996 ford explorer start it turns over but wont start

You need to determine whether or not it is getting fuel and spark. It needs both to start. Remove one plug wire and hold it close to the engine while someone cranks it over. There should be spark from the plug wire. If there is spark, you will have a fuel supply issue. Possible fuel pump/relay/wiring/fuel filter/injectors not working to name a few. If no spark, possible crank sensor/ignition module/wiring.

Did you hook the coils back up? Sounds like no spark, If it was out of time , it would probably backfire at least, but you are not getting any spark. Check the coils, wires, etc, hope this helps.

Occasionally my 2000 Explorer simply won't start. It cranks and cranks but won't start. I may wait a day or so, try again and it starts right up. What's up?

Sounds like crank sensor is bad. You most likely aren't getting any spark. You can always check the fuel pressure test port on the fuel rail to see if there is plenty of gas. use a rag on top if you try.

You can use a test light or ohmmeter on each coil pack connection to see if there is power.

Or you can pull out one spark plug , then plug back in to plug wire, then lay on top of engine.Make sure the electrode is directly next to metal surface (about 1/4" away) Have someone else crank engine while you watch for spark. Then put back on and move to next plug wire.
