Need to put frreon in A/C

I own a 1993 toyota camry, my a/c does not work. I was told that in order to add freeon I would need to get it retrofitted because it does not take the 134 freeon, is there any way around this? ( I hope I explained this correctly) I need to take my car to the shop in order to get the fittings to use the r 134 or can it be done at home... any guess how much money this will cost?

Hppyeveraftr: There is one other option: It is called "FREEZE 12"
It comes in the same size cans as R-12 did. There is one issue>>> I don't know where in the states you are, but legally, you are not suppose to be able to buy any refrigerants without an IMCA license. This is a license you get after taking a test to show that you have the knowledge of refrigerants and the precautions as well as the laws.
In terms of your A/C, If it doesn't work, first you must find out why. Did you loose refrigerant os is there another reason?
You can remove the cap to the service valve and press the center of the valve and see if there is refrigerant in the system.
You might check and see if there are any shops advertising a/c specials using Freeze-12. The only thing with freeze -12, is it must have it's own recovery station, you don't wan't it mixed with the
R-12 in the recovery station. The two gasses will mix.
The shop can check for leaks for a nominal charge and let you know what it will cost to repair. All I or anyone else can do is take potshot at the cost without more factual information from you.
I will say, changing a system over to 134-A can be expensive unless you are having a repair done, such as a compressor replacement.
When a compressor is replaced, the dryer is replaces and the system is ofter flushed. A system with R-12 uses a mineral oil.
134-A uses ester oil or pag oil which is a special lubricant designed to deal with this new compound refrigerant.
The 134-A high and low fittings are placed onto the present ones and often, the "O" rings are replaces at the places where the lined come together. Toyota's take these conversions very well. and there is little difference in performance you will detect on a Camry.
The A/C works very well.

On this old of a car it should be leak tested to find any leaks,a retrofit is possible but doing it right is lots of labor and parts . The right way is to replace the compressor and reciever /dryer to 134a compatable units, and replace all seals to 134a compatible ones and flush the whole system with cleaner and pull a vacuum on it twice to remove all air put the right amount of the correct oil in and then recharge. That all most likely costs more than this vehicle is worth. The cheap way is to flush out the old oil and refill with the right stuuf for 134a and put adapter fittings on it and charge it up. If it works for one season sweet! If not your not out much $$

The firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6 !! What could be more logical?

Going from the timing belt towards the trans end, the RH bank cylinders are 1-3-5, and the LH bank 2-4-6.

Built without a/c

all cars are aviliable with or without AC, u just ask for AC delete when ordering the car new, for instance in Alaska no one orders AC..

So you're saying it starts to shake as soon as you put it in gear? If so, you probably have a dead spark plug or plug wire, or disconnected plug wire. It could be something more serious. Head gasket, cam shaft, timing chain. Try the plugs and wires first, and go from there.

R12 freon has been discontinued due to ozone depletion there for we have r 134a which is just as good but wont hurt the attmosphere you can do a conversion to 134 by changing the fittings to put freon in system you dont have to really change anything else
