Check the alternator it is probobly bad , because the aleternator charges the battery,, when it quites working you only have the battery to run on for awhile then it will go dead because the alternator is no longer charging the battery as a rule of thumb check the voltage on the battery with a voltmeter positive on positive negative on negative if its unnder 12 volts alternators bad hope this helps

2002 hyundai santa fe not starting. my wifes car

Sounds like the alt is at times not recharging the battery. Check to make sure the alt connections are all tight. Make sure your battery terminals are clean and tight. Some times when an alt has a lot of miles, the brush springs get weak and at times will not make connection and thus not charge. Test the system when the lights come on to make sure that the alt is putting out.

Have 2002 sante fe just recently had new transmission installed new battery but today its very cold out car started up ok but noticed for the first 15 minutes my brake light and battery light stayed on...

cold can play hell with electronics. if it happens again (provided the battery is the proper one for that vehicle) hit the accelerator and see if the lights go out. sometimes just a good warm up will rectify the issue. happy holidays

I have not drove my Hyundai Santa Fe For 2 weeks and the car would not start so I jump the car and it was ok for 2 days then when I try to drive it would not start because the battery too low. Is it a...

take it to advance auto while its running and they will check the battery and alternator for you. check to see if the battey terminals are tight and clean, also check your alternator belt...if it is loose the alternator may not charge the battery as it should. you can also check the alternator yourself by getting the car started and removing the negative terminal from the battery...if it the cars shut off then the alternator is not charging.

Brake light and battery light came on at the same time

Have your alternator and alternatorwiring checked, if the ALT light goes on, so does the brake. So it could be that the alternator is faulty. Also check the fuses.

2004 Santa Fe Ignition switch locked

I just had this happen to me yesterday with my 2002 Santa Fe. After trying everything (jiggling steeling wheel, shaking the car, you name it we tried it). We got a chain and pulled the car ahead about 2 feet. That didn't seem to do anything but we then pulled up the emergency brake into the lock position and tried to start the car (with the ER brake on) and it worked!!! The steering wheel came unlocked and the car started up. Don't know if it was the pulling of the car that broke something free or if it was the ER brake, but that was what worked for me.

2002 HYUNDAI SANTA FE

I had the same problem with a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe. While driving to work as I pressed on the gas the brake and battery light would come on. When I applied the brake, the lights would go off. When I got to work I turned the car off and then tried to start it, nothing. The car made a funny sound while running and I could smell somethig smoking. I replaced the alternator and all is good again. When removing the alternator the bottom lifts off the mounting bracket, you cannot drive the bottom bolt back through the mount as I tried to. Simply remove the nut on the bottom bolt and remove the top bolt, then lift the alternator out.
