I have dtc codes p0720 and p0712 coming up on my truck what are these? my tranny feels like its slipping...

SOURCE: need to know where is Low Output SPEED Sens RPM,

as far as i know there is only one speed sensor and it is located on top of the rear differential should have one bolt holding it in. i believe that code says the speed sensor has a low output.

you could have damage or excessive wear in the tranny or you could just have crud blocking some passages or the fluid intake filter ... if there are no other signs of damage .. like particles on the dip stick or a burnt smell or darkened fluid then you could try the transmition forced cleaning service (flush) (available at many auto shops ) .. thats where they force a cleaning fluid thru all the lines and torque converter ... thats all done without even removing the pan ... they back flush the filter but dont usually replace it .. (you have to drop the pan to do that ) .. the trany flush cost a little over $100 .. so its a gamble .. if there is excessive wear or other damage then it wont help .. a mechanic with experience in transmitions could make a better judgment by looking .. if the fluid smells bad or is dark or cruddy then it is not likely fixable by just cleaning .. of course make sure you have the proper amount of fluid right now .. low fluid can cause your simptoms as well .. dont mix fluid types ... use only the recommended type ..
the tranny fluid level is normally checked running and in park ... that may be listed on the dip stick or in the auto manual ..

It sounds like the transmission is in "limp in" mode.If a transmission will not shift out of 1st or 2nd gear, it's in limp mode. Drive the vehicle for about 10 or 15 min and turn it off. Turn the key on and off 4 times. (without starting the motor) This will reset the computer. When a trouble code is set in the computer, the transmission goes into "limp" where it will not shift. On that vehicle, a common cause of the problem is the transmission output speed sensor.
Have the computer scanned for codes (the transmission is scanned using the blue connector under the dash) that will tell you what the problem is. If it is the sensor, it is not an expensive repair.

The only way to get this up and running again is by having the dealer hook up a diagnostic scanner and read directly what is going on in the system, you may have a defective body control module, that would explain the starter problems, do yourself a favor have the dealer diagnose this to read the code.

2001 Chevy S10 4x4 4L60E transmission works perfectly until 50MPH then I lose 3rd and 4th gear, 1st, 2nd and reverse are normal. Never happenend before, been parked since. Fluid is clean. Any ideas?

What are the probable causes of DTC P0720?

According to the database the code means OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR CIRCUT MALFUNCTION.

Check Engine Light P0740. Car stalls when starting (occasionally), and the transmission slips when stopped.

This code is set when the transmission control module detects improper voltage at the torque converter clutch. This can be caused by low tranny fluid/dirty tranny fluid/defective torque converter clutch solenoid/electrical connections to from solenoid

1999 jeep Cherokee classic. It will not go into 1st gear. It says it is the input speed sensor. Check gauge light comes on now. I replaced the alternator , input speed sensor and battery. Its over c

my guess is you have a DTC and forgot to post that. why do that?

why not read the FSM and do what it says to do?

P1xxx codes are factory code, got them? need all codes, not just 1 of many. and using a real scan tool not some POS autozoned junk (free)

p0500 is ASE jargon (best ) is VSS sensors.

vehicle speed sensor.

the transmission TCM monitors many inputs, and if they are bad

it can NOT shift, one such sensor is SPEED. MPH or VSS

the tail shaft all all 42RE transmission has a tail rpm sensor

when dead the cars speedometer goes dead, and the TCM

is at a lost to shift to 2nd gear, if speed is 0 all day.

a hopeless deal there.

if the battery voltage is not over 15v, its not overcharging, running.

99 is a nice jeep, id fix mine, ive had many.

the tranny has 2 speed sensors.

the front sensor does not do MPH, its just engine tranny input RPM

there are 3 RPM sensor

Engine, RPM called, CKP

tranny input sensor that tells the TCM true clutch slip at all time

and if the TCC works or not.

the tail shaft is the true speed sensor, vehicle speed, it\'s on tail shaft.

my guess, is the tail sensor is bad and you replaced the front sensor

P-0715 is a bad input sensor

P0720 and up are output sensor errors.

the 500 , is the 3rd sensor, the tail shaft sensor that runs the speedo

My auto transmission slips alot in 1st and 2nd (3rd occasionaly but almost imperceptible) most of the time when just D is selected. If I select L at a light or stop sign and then shift to 2 and then

levels good, color pink, not burn brown and full of metal dust.....??????
if the TCM , controls the Tranny solenoids right?
Did you pull the TCM trouble codes yes, (blinking light codes?)
does the OD lamp flash, this means DTC errors stored.

The diagnostic code can be read by the number of blinks of the overdrive OFF indicator light when terminals TE1 and E1 are connected.

the Tranny will not slip, unless the tranny is bad.
the FSM covers this, you check the voltage to the soleniods
say in Low. are all solenoid coils at the proper voltage 12v or 0v?
is yes, then the tranny is toast.
but if you read the FSM, there is a on car set of tests.
1:the stall tests. i bet your s fails that.!!! ever do that, ?
2: then the pump pressure test, if bad, tranny is bad.
ill stop here, there are 200 plus part in the box and yes, 1 o-ring bad

the more you slip it the more damage it gets.

the E suffix means elect,shifter, TCM brain.

why not log in to all
and see what tranny you have. and the tests. all simple on cars tests.

in 1992 the started modifiying this tranny to allow shared axle and A/T
fluids. the dead give away is the dip stick (log in and read it)
DIP stick end Tip to hot line, distance.?
34mm old style.
52mm new. (6.5 ilters) of ATFdry fill.
TSB waring of loose ground strap to tranny causing TCM togo nuts.

did you mix 4wd with 2wd ATF fluids (if opted)
2wd uses Dextron II or newer
4wd uses type T
im just reading the FSM. now.

in most cases all TCM made will set a DTC anytime it slips
The TCM has a RPM model for all loads.
input RPM over output RPM
if the RPMs are out of range, and it compensates for hills.(load)
then it trips a DTC, and glows the OD (flashes it)
if slippage is minor it may infact not trip, but will soon as you slowly burn up the clutch packs in the tranny.

id put the jumper clip in and drive and see if throws a DTC
wide open throttle up a hill. (max load will make it slip)
just once.

P0720 stratus codes

code p0720 refers to output shaft speed sensor(OSS)--circuit malfunction====causes--wiring--OSS sensor--ECM/TCM
of it has just happened check the wiring and connections to the transmission for water and corrosion or replace the OSS sensor in the transmission.

Buy transmission range sensor

Suzuki sells it. (so do all major transmission,parts houses)
to use the latter the words on the trans plate need to be known (read)
if you need better help, you'd have to say EXACTLY
where said sensor is located.
my guess is the scan tool tool you its bad and you believe that?
the scan codes, DTC can be right , but let me give one example of not right. (very common)

the transmission , slips. (bad tranny)
and the input sensor reads right , but the tail sensor reads too slow. well gee, that is because the transmission is slipping.
find a pro tranny guy and get him to check that the transmission is ok, first.
Suzuki does sell a FSM for this car, if open that book , under transmission all this is here, and more, includiing how
to diagnose tranny on car and how to understand tranny DTC errors.
state the symptoms for better help, guessing will be costly.

Check engine light with following codes p 1529 p0720 p0715

P1529 indicates that your TCM asked the ECM to turn on the check engine lamp.

The range switch and the output speed sensors are the items that are abnormally affecting the operation of the transmission. The diagnostic logic in your computer can distinguish these issues from one another, so you'll definitely want to do both. You have no diagnostic code for the input speed sensor (P0715) listed, so I have made no recommendation to replace it. In my opinion, it's not a labor-intensive repair, so I wouldn't recommend replacing it unless you have reason to believe it's bad.

Code No. P0720 Output shaft speed sensor system
If the output from the output shaft speed sensor is continuously 50% lower than the vehicle speed for 1 second or more while driving in 3rd or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h or more, it is judged to be an open circuit or short-circuit in the output shaft speed sensor and diagnostic trouble code No. P0720 is output. If diagnostic trouble code No. P0720 is output four times, the transmission is locked into 3rd gear or 2rid gear as a fail-safe measure.
Probable cause
Malfunction of the output shaft speed sensor
Malfunction of the transfer drive gear or driven gear
Malfunction of connector
Malfunction of the TCM

Code No. P0715 input shaft speed sensor system
If no output pulse is detected from the input shaft speed sensor for 1 second or more while driving in 3rd or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h (19 mph) or more, it is judged to be an open circuit or short-circuit in the input shaft speed sensor and diagnostic trouble code No. P0715 is output. If diagnostic trouble code P0715 is output four times, the transaxle is locked into 3rd gear or 2nd gear as a fail-safe measure.
Probable cause
Malfunction of the input shaft speed sensor
Malfunction of the underdrive clutch retainer
Malfunction of connector
Malfunction of the TCM

2002 f250 v10 engine quits after warm up at idle only

DTC = P0720
footnote b = MIL (malfunction indicator light) comes on after 2nd occurance
footnote c = tranny control indicator light (TCIL) flashes
circuit = OSS = output shaft speed sensor in the tranny (not the variable speed sensor (VSS) in the diff).
condition = OSS sensor circuit malfunction
probable causes = Short/open circuit, sensor, PCM

My guess? Replacing the OSS will take care of it. smile.gif I hope you don't have a faulty PCM. frown.gif
