Question about 1987 Subaru Gl 4WD

I need some help trying to trouble shoot electrical problem brother replaced coil starer and distribtor and pickup module and rpm module what else could be wrong with my 87 subaru gl wagon please could you help me im desperate at this point.

yes, if you have battery power at the injector, but when you check for "pulse" from the computer on the ground side of the injector and the test light does not blink, the most common problem is a failed distributor module.
The pick-up coil in the distributor can cause the same symptom. It is the pickup coil that the injector and spark control signals originate from it is connected directly to the distributor module. The module is what sends the signal to the ecm for fuel control and timing advance and also pulses the ignition coil. Some people call the distributor module the "ignition control module". However, it affects fuel as well as ignition, which is why I refer to it as simply the "distributor module".

If the module is bad, you can replace only the distributor module. If the pickup coil is bad, you will either have to disassemble the entire distributor to replace the coil (the hard way) or you can simply buy a remanufactured distributor. It is less expensive to replace only the coil, but the coils usually go bad as a result of worn distributor bushings and it is usually more trouble than it is worth by the time you get everything right.

If you have lots of time to work with me and do some electrical testing, I can help you determine if it is the module or the coil. However, if you just want to get your vehicle running as fast as possible, the easiest and quickest way is to go ahead and get a remanufactured distributor and be done with it. They are not real expensive. AutoZone lists the distributor for your vehicle for under $100 (click link below)

I have an 88 bronco 351w and im only getting have the voltage to my coil 6v. i recently replace the ignition control modual 2 weeks ago any ideas???


Ignition control module? There is a IDM , this module,trouble shoot this one instead. PCM uses IDM with the spout to verify coil signal from the TFI module. So basically you will need to inspect the TFI or replace and also check under the steering column there is the ignition switch (electrical switch), if that fails then you will get 6 volts to coil

Where is the distribtor?


you have a DIS (direct ignition system) it consists of a coil pack,ignition module,crankshaft position sensor and ECM. there is 2 on your vehicle. if you have no spark check your crank sensor or ignition module. or goto local auto store and get a spark check for 5 bucks which plugs inline of the plug wires either at the coil or plugs.hope this helps

'87 ford van w/302 just died,no spark,replaced ign.mod. &ign.coil.still no spark.


mark the distributor and pull it out, turn the key on.with module wires connected, ground the dist. body and spin the gear, with the cap off, you should hear a light spark or tick in the distribtor, if not the pickup in the dist. is bad. a rebuilt distributor is probably cheaper than the pickup alone.

No spark i changed ignition control module, pickup coil, coil, cap, and rotor still nothing and the rotor turns


DId you check your distributer out? Not the Cap but the main distributer itself.

try the coil in the distribtor cap, most coils go out after a few years, has to be the coil since you already replace the module, im sure it will fix you up, thanks hope to help, thanks robert b.

Now i replace the ignition cylinder but i steel kent starer on my chevrolet 1987 s10 pickup


check power on large yellow wire from ignition swith while turning key to start possition,this is the wire that powers the solenoid to starter.also may try tapping on starter with hammer while someone is trying to start.If starts while performing tap method you will need a starter. If no power to yellow wire at ign switch while starting will need electrical part of ignition.
