01 dodge cummins loses power at around 55mph

I have an 01 cummins dodge with a six speed . about two weeks ago it started losing power at about 55 . it acts like ya let up on the gas pedal whenyou hold it at a constant speed . it doesnt smoke ,the engine light doesnt come on ,it just stops pulling and then will pick back up. the longer ya drive it the more it seems to do it. i did go to college to be a mechanic and all so im not a rookie but this one has me stumped .i have a changed the bell crank sensor and tps or whatever you want to call it .i thought i had it when i took the old sensor off it did have that over heated sensor kinda smell . but i drove it and its still doing it . any help would be appreciated.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE LOOSING THE LIFT PUMP TRY JUST BUMPING OVER THE STARTER WITHOUT ACTULY STARTING THE ENGIN YOU SHOULD HEAR THE LIFT PUMP COME ON IT IS LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE IF IT DOES COME ON THE NEXT STEP IS TO CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE IT SHOULD BE AROUND 18 POUNDS YOU NEED TO GET THIS FIXED ASAP IF YOU FRY THE INJECTION PUMP IT WILL BE VERY EXPENSIVE

Well, Hate to say this to you but your Cummins 24v turbo diesel does not have glow plugs. The fuel temperature necessary for proper ignition is heated by an element inside your fuel filter housing.

Won't accelerate faster than 55mph. Loses pwr..

When you losing speed, do you lose RPM? This is important. 1- If you don't lose RPM then you have a problem with your torque converter. 2- If you lose RPM then you have a problem with fuel air mixture and this is controlled by ECM. Usually ECM is not a problem, but the problem is coming from other sensors contributing fuel: air mixture control like Air mass flow control ans Oxygen Sensor besides the throttle body valve is gummed up and need a through clean. So try to address the last one first then follow in reverse order if the case is in # 2. Good luck.

the most likely problem is the cam sensor in you valve cover. we see this all the time here in Florida. once the sensor heats up it fails and starts working again when it cools off. try replacing it with on from the dealer and you should have no more problems.
