Vacuum advance on the distributor or the springs inside the distributor could be weak.

SOURCE: diagram for replacing distributor, cap, rotor...

Replace the coil. It is shorted out. I have changed quite a few coils for the exact same symptom.

The graciousness of a FixYa rating for my assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.

It is five minute job and you can do it. Here is a vedio clip on a Honda Accord and your car should have very similar configuration to it.

most likely a defect. call the dealer and see if toyota has issued a recall on the visor and you might have it replaced for free. other than that, there's always the junkyard.

Dodge stratus misfire, runs rough has random misfires in cylinder 1,3,and 5 and a vacuum leak, I,m not too worried about the leak unless it is related to the misfire

I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR.MARK LOCATION OF ROTOR OR MAKE NOTE SO YOU CAN INSTALL NEW ROTOR IN CORRECT FIRING POSITION. IF THIS CAR HAS A LOT OF MILES I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP, ROTOR.SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.REPLACE IGNITION COIL.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS, FILL GAS TANK UP TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS POUR CAN SEAFOAM IN FUEL TANK IT WILL FLUSH OUT THE FUEL INJECTORS WHILE ENGINE RUNNING OR DRIVING CAR. REPLACE FUEL FILTER. REASON I SAY DO A TUNE UP PROBLEM COULD BE MINOR FIX.COULD NEED TUNE UP.IF TUNE UP DONT HELP THEN YOUR PROBLEM IS DISTRIBUTOR OR THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR INSIDE OF DISTRIBUTOR.THAT WOULD SET OFF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BUT I WOULD SAY TUNE UP COULD FIX PROBLEM.

Missing when accelerating

Hi, from experience its more likely it is the spark plugs and/or wires.
Maybe even the distributor cracked. At night pop the hood start the car look around the wires and cap look for blue / white arking.

Generally speaking, bad spark plug cause missing...

Won't idle, runs rough under throttle

Check all of your tune-up parts. (Distributor Cap, Distributor Rotor, Spark Plugs and Spark Plug Wires) Also perform a compression test if no problem is found with the tune-up parts. Check also for vacuum leaks and the Intake Air Control Valve (IAC) for the "won't idle" problem.

1990 K1500 running rough. Replaced plugs, wires, sensors. It runs rough with a load on it. Any suggestions?

Check distributor cap and rotor for carbon tracking(cracked cap). Perform compression test.If more than 10% difference between cylinders perform leakage test to find compression leak.

1996 Honda Accord Rough Idle Even After tune up performed Changed spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor wheel along with all spark plug wires, changed fuel filter, air filter, spent $150 on fuel injector...

Perform a valve clearance inspection and adjust if necessary. Tight or sticking valves will cause a misfire or rough running concern. Note: Perform valve adjustment when the engine is stone cold. 4cyl: INT 0.26mm EXH: 0.30mm (V6 engine are hydraulic and no adjust necessary.) Also check for a sticking or stuck open EGR valve. For diagnostic purposes only: Remove the EGR valve. Place a business card over the EGR passage and bolt the EGR valve back on. This plugs the EGR ports and if the misfire goes away the EGR valve is partially stuck open and is defective.
Check for low fuel pressure. Check for low compression. Check cam timing. Check for a weak ignition coil. Also don't over look the possibility of worn or broken engine mounts which cause excessive engine movement and engine vibration. -hope this helps

Hesitation

Could be timing, air filter, plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor. Perform basic tune up and see if that helps.

When i first start the vehicle it idles rough like it is going to quit running. After a short acceleration - maybe through a parking lot it runs smoothly. AC running when this happens. Any solutions?

Try giving it a full tune-up before you try any further (and more expensive) trouble-shooting.

Replace the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, air filter (very important), possibly the coil (pricey), and try a bottle of fuel injector cleaner.

If these fail to smooth your idle, then you want to look to the more expensive solutions.

I hope this helps.

1990 Camry runs roughly when accelerating, especially up hills...

This could be a problem with plugs, wires, distributors, fuel filter or fuel injectors. Try changing the plugs and wires first, then the fuel filter. If you are changing the plugs and wires, make sue you use anti seizing compound and dielectric grease.

1987 saab is running rough and seems to be losing power as i push the gas

Try basic tune up (SPARK PLUG WIRES, Spark Plugs, Distributor CAP, Rotor) and adjust timing if you know how. This is the basic place to start. I this doesn't work then we move on. A GOOD tune up goes along way.
