Try shaking the car from side to side hard it maybe that the float in the tank is stuck in that position. if no good take the wire off the tank unit and get someone to watch the gauge when you touch the cable to the body of the car, a good earth the gauge should rise very quickly, if it does the gauge is probaly ok and the tank unit is stuck. you may need to remove it to try to free it off if you can or might need to replace it.hope this helps

2002 Chevy Suburban: Fuel gauge reads empty, tank is half full

Youre gauge is controlled by a plunger in the fuel tank which is attached to the sensor and the fuel gauge. it sounds like when the plunger goes down half way its either getting stuck down lower then it should. Needs replacing. Any mechanic can do this install for you.

Gas gauge works intermittently-1996 Hyundai Accent

Two things here. Its either theres a bad ground from the tank to the frame or the fuel sending unit in the tank is not working properly...Give all the ground wires from the fuel pump harness up to the motor..Make sure not corroded. If all the wires are good than its the fuel sender in the tank..Hope this helps you find your problem and have a great day...

Fuel Gauge Issue

I know you don't want to drop the tank and I could lie to you, but the truth is that you have to drop the tank to check and fix this problem. It really is not as hard as you may think. Even easier if you are low on gas. Putting a full tank back up is a real challenge!
So, after you pull the tank down and remove the sending unit/fuel pump, get a ohm meter and set it to Ohms. Insert the leads one into each opening on the connector on the sending unit plug. Slowly raise and lower the arm with the fuel float on it and see if your ohms fluctuate. Also notice if there is any resistance on the arm as you move it up and down. This is how you check your problem. I have seen it many times before. A new sending unit will fix this problem, though if your ohms are fluctuating and your float arm is stiff, you can temporarliy fix it with a few squirts of WD40. It will start to hang up again after a while though.
Please remember to rate this fix.

Fuel gauge stuck on half full

I can tell you almost for certain your fuel level sending unit is bad, I have been able to fix them though. It requires removing the gas tank and then the fuel pump. You can if your inclined, bend the brushes on the small circuit board over more so they will make better contact on to it. Other wise its a new fuel pump assembly, check all plugs and wiring by unpluging and repluging them to insure no bad connect. It is possible it could be the guage itself, but in thirty years of fixing cars never had a bad guage

Suspected Fuel Pump Failure

first, tap on the gas tank to see if it sounds empty, second, when you turn your key on you should hear the fuel pump turn on (faint whirring sound from gas tank) for a couple seconds.
