Question about 1999 Audi A4

1 Answer

I have a V reg 1999 Audi A4 that I am very fond of. Recently when I start the car up it begins to over heat reaching 100oC and a nasty burning smell comes through the vents. After running the car for 10-15 minutes it begins to cool down again. I have checked the water and it isn't low on water. I don't understand what the problem is

It could be the thermostat not opening soon enough. It's very risky to run the car while it's overheating. Check to see if the thermostat is operating properly.

I just had the same problem and read on another post how to fix it. Unlock your car, open and close all the doors, and lock it manually with your key. It worked.

Sounds like your ignition coils are going on you... but fortunately Audi has a voluntary recall for these on your car model, and will replace them for you free of charge. Contact your local Audi dealer, and they should take care of this for you!

How do i replace my heater motor on my audi a4 19 tdi (1999) T reg ?

It is a long and involved job Give yourself about 14 to 18 hours total plus parts and coolant.

FYI : Take lots of pictures with a digital camera as you dismantle the dash and center consul so you can see how it was before you forgot how that part went in !!

Audi a4 1999 When I start the car in the morning it rev's high for a few minutes and then when it drops i can drive. what do i need to fix this problem ???

How high does it rev? It's supposed to hold around 1200RPM until the cats heat up (the secondary air pump causes this) to help with cold start emissions.
