first hit in Prius forum , via goggle, 1st hit nets this answerIf you've had the center stack fascia off before, you shouldn't have too much trouble. The trick is to get the assembly out of the dash far enough so you can get at the screws holding the fascia panel to the metal framework. Those who are tackling the project for the first time should be aware that the plastic panel can get brittle with 10 years of aging. If it breaks, a new one is about $150 (btdt).

SOURCE: Replacment of a dash light. Toyota Corolla 1998

There is a plastic garnish surrounding the instrument cluster held in by 2 philips head screws. remove the screws and gently pry the garnish from top first then sides then it should pull out.

Then remove the 3 screws holding the cluster in place (2 bottom 1 top). Once that is done gently flip the cluster bottom up and pull out some to expose the wiring harness. Remove the 3 connectors from the back and then the cluster will pull out.

There are 3 bulbs that control the overall lighting of the cluster. They are spaced about every third across the rear of the cluster. They are the larger Green knobs. Remove the 3 large green knobs and replace the bulbs with the appropriate size. You can call your local parts store to find out the size.

Its a 5 minute job and does not require the entire removal of the dash board.

Just remove the 4 screws and then slowly pull the cluster out and reach behind and disconnect the plugs on the back of the unit and then remove the cluster. The bulbs can be removed by turning them and pulling out.

My dash board milage light does not display

Probably a bad solder connection on the instrument panel between the led display and the circuit board itself. Instrument panel needs to be removed for this proceedure. Remove the back cover from the circuit board and carefully remove the circuit board to access the led display. Carefully lift up the display and look to see if any of the solder joints from the solder legs are loose. resolder as needed. Plug the circuit board in the dash and turn on the key to see if it works.

Tail lights and instrument panel lights dont work

The Dash and Tail lights connect to the same fuse in most cars. if the fuse is okay, check to make sure the tail lights and/or dash lights are properly grounded. all bulbs could be blown...but highly unlikely.
