Below the windshield under the hood there should be a connector about the diameter of a qaurter ,it has wires on one side and is sealed on the other. i believe it is a tan color on that year.

I need instructionction on how to do a tune up ona jeep grand cherokee 2003 witha 4.0 six cyclinder

you have 6 spark plugs, and coils where the plug wires are connected into, you will have to take a small wrench, and unloosen the small nut that holds the plug wire [ coil assmbly down on to the intake manifold, ] once you have removed the nut, then twist , and pull up on the wire assembly connector, this will remove the plug wire from the plug, then use a sparkplug socket, most of the time, they are a 5/8" socket, and a 3/8 " drive ratchet to remove the plugs, 1 at a time, then take the new spark plug and gap it, with a spark plug feeler gauge, some of them call for .040.0 but look under your hood at your engine decal for the proper reference of the vehicle, and it should tell you the spark plug gap fpr your vehicle, after you replace 1 spark plug at a time , then reconnect the wire connector, and install the nut and tightened it down. { and on some models } the plug wires just might be connected directly to the plugs, in which , you would not need a small wrench to remove any nuts, you would just twist and remove the plug boot from the plug, also you can replace the air filter, it is normally located close to where the air inlet duct is, on the passengers side, it is inside of a sorta square box with spring type snaps on the sides, "you won't have to worry about the fuel filter, because it is inside of the gas tank, only time this is replaced , is when you have trouble with the fuel pump}

When do you replace the spark plugs and do you need a special tool

Recommended spark plug replacement is at 60,000 miles. It is also recommended that the plug wires be replace at the same time. The only tools you will need will be a rachet, an extension, and the proper size spark plug socket. When replacing the spark plugs, remove one at a time, never remove all wires at the same time. When putting new plugs in, be sure to keep them straight when tightening. Tighten just until snug.

How complicated is it to change spark plugs

Hello
It depends.Some autos need to have the front tire removed to get to the plugs.Or the battery is in the way.

Lets say you have a clear view at the plugs.
1. Tools You need a 3/8 ratchet with an 6 inch extension and a 5/8 or 13/16 socket.
2.A blanket or towell to cover up your fender so you dont scratch the paint.
3.A spark plug gap tool.Plug type and gap should be listed on the engine sticker under the hood.
4.Optional-undo positive cable on battery.
5.Start on first plug.DO ONE AT A TIME.pull 1 plug wire off ,and remove spark plug using your ratchet and socket.Set gap on new plug and install into plug hole.
6 Pull one wire and plug at a time so you do not cross wires and mess up firing order.

May sound like alot but its really easy.

How to change the spark plugs

you need a spark plug socket usually a 5/8 and a ratchet with an extension (might not need it) you might have to tilt your engine forward to get the back plugs(fwd) remove the boot(connected to top of sparkplug) ONE AT A TIME replace the plug and plug wire if you are replacing the wires RECOMENDED trace them one at a time and replace it, plug it onto the spark plug, then on to the next one, MAKE SURE YOU DONT REMOVE MORE THEN ONE BOOT AT A TIME, OR SPARKPLUG AT A TIME. take it one at a time so you dont mess the firing order up.

Very easy process but takes a little time. Remove plastic cover on top of engine to uncover wires going back to ignition coils. Remove plug wire and trace back to coil. Remove and replace spark plugs on at a time, same with wires. Spark plugs need .5 gap. good luck
