Sure , get a used harness.
its harder today,because copper $3 /lb now.
so the recycle it way too fast.
put request in here
car-parts dot com.
look like the fuse failed, some fords had none at all.
sad, that.

Yes it is fixable! go to the junkyard and find another 03 explorer and cut out the harness so you have enuff length to replace what you cut off on yours. match the colored wires together slide on a piece of shrink tubing and make a y on each wire and twist together slide shrink tubing over the connection heat the tubing to seal it and you will be up and running in no time!

How do i identify alternator wiring at fuse panel?

the wires the do the charging are on the alternator. the only thing the goes to the dash would be the wire showing that it is charging and that is not important. if you go on register and they have wire diagrams you can view. that's if you know how to read them. some are a pain

Why does my altinator get so hot

The alternator is over charging or the wire to it is a dead short . If it has an external regulator then replace it . Failing that take the car to an accredited auto electrician to be tested .

Where do i trace my orange/blue wire to from alternator? i have new alternator and batteries, but won't charge. will charge if i jump orange/blue to positive post. Any good suggestions? Thanks Phil

The orange/light blue wire is connected to the red (positive) wire from the battery, through a fusible link (or two links depending on engine size) to pin #3 of the voltage regulator at the alternator. The fusible link will be in the harness so you may have to disassemble the harness. The fusible link is probably blown. This was probably caused by the defective alternator/regulator assembly.

According to my diagram, it appears to go from the red batt wire to a gray 12 gauge fusible link, into a brown 18 gauge link, then turns into the orange/light blue wire and to the alternator.

(A fusible link is a piece of wire that acts like a fuse and will burn out, opening the circuit when amperage above its rating. This protects the circuit and lessens the chance of fire).

Good luck, please ask if you need more info.

You might want to contact Ford. There was a class action lawsuit regarding bad brake pressure sensor that caught fire. Gentleman in Iowa died in garage fire attributed to defect. Might want to contact a lawyer.

Crossed battery wires on 2001 ford tarus. When this occured the horn beeped and the trunk released as sparks flew. Immediatly removed the cables and ever since then the car has been burning up...

Hi, yes fuses are there to protect what they are made to protect, but when the main power source is crossed, the dc voltage can and will do a lot of damage. I have seen the electrical wiring ignite and burn the auto to the ground! there is a lot of amps in the battery. This is indeed what is causing the alternator to burn out. You have dead shorts somewhere in the wiring harness, wires that are more then likely burned together and touching, positive to negative at times causing these problems to occur. If you can't locate these wires by testing for any hot wires that are grounded, I would recommend getting this auto in the shop. What will happen if you do not, will cost you your auto, could cost you your auto by causing a fire. This is dangerous when something of this magnitude happens. This is not a minor short in the system, it has caused some major damage. I don't mean to freak you out, I just don't want you to have any further damage. Look it over well, and see what you can do. If you cant find the melted wiring, which it will be melted, take it in. Keep me posted on this.
PS Check around the ignition wiring harness as this is where the majority of wires come into. If you can, pick up a manual on your auto to look over the charging circuit as you are burning out alternators. You may find the problem in that circuit. Alternator, battery cables, starter, voltage regulator is built into the alternator, ignition, and so on. You should be in the right area. Good Luck, and keep me posted.

Transmission burn

if i understand correctly, your questions is why the transmission should be replaced. well if your main harness was burned chances are if it got that hot that it burned the clutch, then it cooked tyhe oil in the trans mission and melted the seals and most likely warped the gear train inside the transmission
