Lift up the blade and press the small tab under the curved portion of the blade and push the blade towards the other end of the arm. Good luck. Keep me posted.

I can get the old wiper blades off my 2008 avalon but don't know how to put on new ones. do you have to remove something from old blade?

Hello,
  1. After you have removed the old wiper blade make sure to remove any adapter left behind on the actual wiper arm as the new blade should come with a multi use adapter.
  2. It should just be a bare metal rounded hook bar now.
  3. Now if there is not adapter on the new wiper blade then put the one provided on. Often times the wiper blade comes with this adapter already on the wiper blade.
  4. Pull the wiper arm out a bit and set the new blade under the open section of the wiper arm.
  5. That adapter will have a little play to it.
  6. Push it up a bit so it fits in the slot on the wiper arm and pull up on the wiper blade and the blade should "click" into place.
Do the same for the other side and your good to go. I also recommend Raine X for your windshield. My experience as a mechanic and a storm chaser has proven Rain X to be invaluable in severe weather.
Regards, Tony

How to install a windshield wiper blade

You will need new wiper blades before you can perform a wiper blade replacement project. Get your "owner's car manual" as it will tell you everything you need to know about the wipers' size and type. The manual may also give you list of brands you can choose from for you wiper blades.

  1. Buy the correct wiper blades, make sure you have bought the entire blade and not just the rubber insert. Read the instructions properly before you begin. It will show you how to perform the wiper blade replacement.
  2. Take the wiper arms off the windshield. You will have to remove the old wiper blades very carefully so you don't hurt yourself. Wear kitchen gloves if you don't want to get your hands dirty or cut yourself.
  3. Push on the tab of the old wiper blades and pull them out. You can also use a small screwdriver to lift the tab.
  4. Take the new wiper blades and insert it in the arms very carefully. Don't push too hard, but do it gently. It will easily slide itself in. You will hear a "click" sound when the entire blade has gone inside.
  5. Wiggle or shake the new wiper blades to see they are secured properly and won't fly away when you turn them on. If all looks good, lower the wiper arms back on the windshield. And you're done!

1988 VW GTI 16 valve. How to fix and replace windshield wiper arm(not just blade). It rotates beyond wind shield.

Remove the wiper arm. Switch on the wipers for a 15 seconds or so then switch them off and allow the wiper motor to reach the "Park" position. Re-fit the wiper arm/blade so the blade sits an inch or 2 from the lower edge of the windscreen. Pour some water on the screen or use the screenwashers and try the wipers to see if they still travel beyond the edge of the screen. Small adjustments can be made by lowering the arm towards the bottom edge of the screen by a couple of splines on the shaft. If it still travels beyond the edge of the screen then you may need a replacement linkage as it could be worn. You may be able to buy the linkage only and use your existing motor-I know this is possible with the Sharan but not sure on your model/year.

The wiper motor on my 1983 Ford Ranger still works but the wipers no longer move. I think there is a failure of the mechanical linkage. Where do I go to find repair parts?

why do you think the motor still works if the wipers don't move? Can you hear the motor run or can you see a little movement when you turn the switch on?

What happens when you activate the washers?

go to a salvage yard that allows you to remove the parts yourself. Then you can see how the motor and linkage assembly comes out.

don't have 1983 info, but here is 1994:

Section 01-16A: Wiper and Washer System, Ranger/Explorer 1994 Ranger and Explorer Vehicles Workshop Manual

The two windshield wiper pivot arms (17526) and windshield wiper blades (17528) are mounted on a pivot shaft, one at each side of the windshield. The windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft (17566) are connected to the motor by windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip (17531) . Ranger and Explorer vehicles are equipped with an interval wiper and washer (IWW) system featuring a lever-type turn signal and windshield wiper switch (13K359) mounted on the steering column. The IWW windshield wiper governor (17C476) uses a relay contact to control current to the windshield wiper motor . The governor electronic circuitry controls the contact to supply current to windshield wiper motor . A rear wiper/washer system is available on Explorer vehicles. The rear window wiper system consists of a windshield wiper motor mounted inside the liftgate (40010) , an articulating windshield wiper pivot arm and windshield wiper blade , a windshield wiper/washer switch (17A553) and an inline circuit breaker. The front electric windshield washer system consists of a control switch, integral with the turn signal, a windshield washer reservoir (17618) and windshield wiper motor and the necessary windshield washer hoses (17A605) , windshield washer nozzle jet and brackets (17603) and attaching parts.

Cannot figure out how to replace windshield wipers. Instructions? Thank you Have taken the vehicle to several repair shops - purchased wipers but they do not know how to replace.

I would try Walmart or Autozone or Oreillys. If I remember correctly I had a 1988 Taurus and there was a change in the mounting pin size on the tip of the wiper mount. Some of the replacement wiper blades had adapters included with the wiper blade.

It may be necessary to buy the wiper arm that fits into the drive posts at the base of the windshield. The spring tension would be restored and you could eliminate the current mounting problem.

Windshield wipers not working

there are little tabs at the end of the arm where it attaches to the wiper trans. if you bend the arms up at the hinge and swing those tabs out the arms will stay up (a small screw driver can be used to move the tabs if they are stuck. A 1/8 screwdriver is a good choice, $4 at sears). once those tabs are out and the arms are holding themselves up just pull. you may need to rock them back and forth a bit but they should just pull off.

To remove the wiper motor itself:
1993 Aerostar/Ranger/Explorer
  1. Turn the wiper switch on. Turn the ignition switch on until the blades are straight up. Then, turn ignition off to keep them there.
  1. Disconnect battery and wiper motor electrical connector.
  1. Remove the right wiper arm and blade.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  1. Remove the right pivot nut and allow the linkage to drop into the cowl.
  1. Remove the linkage access cover, located on the right side of the dash panel near the wiper motor.
  1. Reach through the access cover opening and unsnap the wiper motor clip.
  1. Push the clip away from the linkage until it clears the nib on the crack pin. Then, push the clip off the linkage.
  1. Remove the wiper linkage from motor crank pin.
  1. Remove nut and ground strap.
  1. Remove three attaching nuts from wiper motor. Remove the motor.

How to Replace Wiper Blades Guide (Typical):
Potential tools needed to replace wiper blades:
  • Flat blade screwdriver (small)
  • Small nosed pliers
  • Latex or vinyl gloves
  • Safety goggles
To replace wiper blades theactual action of replacing the blade is no big deal, it's the locationof the blade down below the hood that can make it difficult though.Sometimes it helps to open the hood to gain access to the wiper blades.Other times it is helpful if the wiper blade is somewhere in the motionline of wiper action. The trick is to get the wiper to stop somewherein the wiper arc. Turn the wipers to the on position and allow thewipers to start, and then shut the key off when the wiper has arrivedin a desirable position on the windshield. To replace your wiper bladesplease follow the step by step instruction below. Also, watch the How to replace wiper blades video below to gain additional information. The method in which the wiper blades are attached will vary slightly.
  • Step 1: With the hood closed, turn the wiperson, when the wipers are in the middle of their arc turn the key to theoff position. (Note: if this can't be done because of wiper conditionand you want to avoid scratching the windshield please open your hoodto gain access)
  • Step 2: Locate the mounting clips at the top pivot on the wiper blade
  • Step 3: Release the clip and remove the wiper arm
  • Step 4: Match the size of the old blade against the new blade to ensure proper fit and operation
  • Step 5: Reinstall the new wiper blade and recheck wiper operation

Common Problems:
  • Make sure the wiper blades are the same size as the original blades.
  • When replacing wiper blades not getting the blade onthe mounting pin completely allowing the wiper arm to become dislodgedand possibly causing damage to the windshield.
  • Using wiper blades after the blade has failed permanently damaging the windshield by craving scratches in the wiper arc.
  • Wiper blade can create a chattering noise when theblade is not properly balanced allowing the blade to "flop" back andforth as the wiper direction changes.

I hope help you with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.
