Will be changing engine oil and want to make sure i do it correctly
first off make sure u have some old rags or a roll of blue shop towels works best. u need to be sure u have enough oil
probly five or six quarts.
make sure u got ur filter.
u may need a filter wrench, not alway but they can stick tight.
also a drain pan and a wrench for the oil plug.
first take the key and put it in ur pocket, thats good to do no matter what ur working on because that way no one will start it if your not around or worse under it.
ok warm up the engine. carfull not to burn your self but the hotter the better when draining oil.
hot oil drains better hot, but hurts on skin.lol. but that how we do it in every shop.
ok now take ur drain pan and plug wrench. also a rag. probly fourteen or fifteen mm
crawl under the front and look for the plug in the bottom of the oil pan, the big pan right at the bottom of the engine
lossen the plug.remember righty tighty, lefty loosy
now put the pan under and unscrew the plug all the way and make sure ur oil is going in the pan. now u should still be holding the plug, thats where the rag is needed because its still hot and ur hand will start to burn after a few seconds. ok now if u can see the filter from down there go ahead and take it off. if not go up to the top and do it there. but put the pan under it before you do.
ok now u have the filter and oil out give it ten or so to drip.
clean the plug good and put it back in. tighten it down right away. never leave a plug not tight. its not a i will get it in a minute kinda thing. never put in an oil plug and not tighten it down. i have seen it happen before. not good.
ok now with the new oil filter u need to take some new oil ,just a few drops will do, and coat the ruber ring. then carfully. carfully. carfully put it back in place and screw it tight. carfully i stress. if u miss pull it back out and clean the dirt off. its just like spark plugs. if u miss clean the dirt. u dont want that in ur engine. now tighten by hand and give it a little more with the wrench just to be sure it wont work its way loose.
ok last step. new oil.
if u have a owners manual it should say how much to use. once u put that much in u still need to check the dip stick because its not a garentee that how much u need.
ok oil level says full ,
plug is tight
filter is tight.
fire it up and watch ur oil gauge. it should come up within a few seconds.
ten seconds running dry and u will burn ur bearings so whatch it. if no oil pressure shut it off
in real cold weather it can take up to twenty seconds to prim, at most.
ok u got good oil pressure let it run about a minute. shut it off, wait about a minute and check the dipstick again. it it was right at full before u started it it may be a little low because of the filter ,so add a little if needed.
thats it ur done.
but its also a good time to check or replace ur air filter to. but dont let any dirt get in there ether.
