  • Under the lefthand side kickpanel there is a connector and harness. The fuel pump relay is under that kick panel and marked M6.

  • Below is the diagram for the fuel pump fuse.

  • Make sure to check the harness for continuity as well.

  • Hope this helps.

Check the fuel pump fuse and relay. Replace both if needed. If both fuse and relay are good, then your fuel pump needs to be replaced. If the fuel pump needs to be replaced, you may be able to get it to operate by turning the key on and simultaneously banging on the bottom of the gas tank. You should hear the pump humming if it worked.

97 maxima starts and then sputters out. Should the fuel pump continuously pump or shut off if the car not running

The pump stops running if the engine dies. Cuts down on the risk of fire in a wreck. The computer has to see oil pressure or RPM to power the pump.

My 97 maxima starts then stops sending fuel

If youre sure its the fuel, check the lines to see if you could find a leak or if you could smell it. You could have an aerated fuel issue. or maybe you have a weak pump. (pump fatigue)

Id try and retrieve some codes since its an obdII.

How long and how does it run after starting up?

I have a 95 nissan maxima...i have put new spark plugs, camshaft sensor, 2 crankshaft sensors, electric ignition...and checked the relay plug and fuse that goes to the fuel pump...and something is still...

the fuel pump is toast, use a volt meter or test light to check for power at pump, if receiving power then pump is faulted, if not receiving power follow wire testing at every connection until you find power. once you find power you will most likely find part at fault if not pump

'97 Maxima GLE. Has sat for 2 months. Will start

start witha new fuel filter and perhaps a intank additive such as heat. also look inside the air box for nests. also common. if all is clear, let it run and idle for about 10-15 minutes look underneath the vehicle and look to see if anything under there is cherry red. if not try holding the accelerator down for a few momoents and check again. if it glows, replace the catalytic converter.

Wanted to know how hard is it to replace the fuel pump on a 97 nissan maxima and where is the fuel pump located?

take out the back seat(bottom part) or pull back the liner in trunk. You should see a small panel. Unscrew the panel cover to reveal the fuel pump. Remove it SLOWLY and be careful of plastic parts, they snap easy. Just remove and reinstall, its pretty simple. Make sure the is no full of gas, it will be everywhere.

Hi my nissan maxima has problem

The oxygen sensors in the exhaust pipe are saying the fuel/air ratio is too lean. This commonly happens when the computer in the car reached it's limit putting out the most fuel. Therefore, the mix ratio is still lean.
The possible problem maybe:
The fuel pump not puting out enough pressure.
The fuel filter maybe clogged
The fuel injector maybe clogged or needs to be cleaned.

Were there anymore trouble codes besides the two from Autozone?
