Question about 1999 Dodge Durango

No Bus Error

My 2000 Dodge Dakota 4 cyl recently died. All the gauges went to ZERO while driving. The odometer reads "no bus error". Everything I read said to replace the ECM. So $300 later, I install the remanufactured part, reconnect the battery, turn the key...No Bus Error. Any help at all??

My next idea was to pull the instrument cluster and clean up any contacts, as well as getting a hold of a light tester and checking my fuses. When the odometer blinks several times and then the no bus error shows up, an engine icon also lights up, followed in about 10 seconds by a low fuel icon. Should the fuel icon lighting up direct me somewhere?

Thank you sir. I will try all options.

All the modules are connected together to communicate with each other via the PCI bus. It is possible that one of the modules is pulling the bus down.Since the vehicle won't start it could be any one of the modules. It will be a process of elimination to find the faulty one by disconnecting them one at a time. Here are a few, powertrain control module (the one you replaced) Instrument cluster, overhead console, anti-lock brakes, airbag. Since the cluster unplugged wont read anymore, just try to start the vehicle to see if that was the one. Otherwise see if the odometer message of "no bus" goes away after each one is unplugged.

The fuel light is coming on because of a lack of communication with other modules on the PCI bus (programmable communications interface). One other possibility that can be checked with a volt meter or by unplugging sensors is the 5 volt reference signal is being pulled low. The TPS, CKP, CMP all share a reference signal. I haven't seen this problem on 4 cylinders though. With the key on, unplug the throttle position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, and camshaft position sensor. When you find the bad sensor you'll heard relays light up and key and door chimes in the cab sounding off. But like I said, I have only seen this reference signal pulled low on 4.0 and 4.7 jeeps and trucks, no 4 cylinders. I hope this helps

I want to know how to calculate kilometers into liters of diesel

Fill up the tank. Record the current odometer reading,Drive until the fuel gauge shows about half a tank. Fill up the tank and note how many liters went in. Subtract the recorded odometer reading from the current odometer reading. Divide by how much fuel you just put in. The result is km/l.

Dakota - 2001, started, died and won't start. all dash indicators light as normal except odometer says "No Bus."

Hi, if odometer say no bus you are loosing your bus signal some were ,with out a bus signal the car not going to run the bus signal runs to every module on your truck. This could be as easy as a blow en fuse to a wire shorted out or a bad module . Depends on your know how around cars . If your not sure you should take to local shop or dealer. If i can help you further just re post.
Thanks dodge tec

Sounds like you either missed a reconnection on a plug or a plug didn't get seated. Or one may have come loosed while moving the dash around. I suggest pulling the dash panel loose enough to recheck all the connections. Also you may have simply blown a fuse. check your owner's manual and it'll tell you which is the fuse for the instrument cluster. pull the fuse to inspect, replace as needed.

Will start then die.

if it starts runs and dies instantly, the fuel pump could be the culprit, its getting the signal to sqirt fuel to start but then no voltage to continue pressure.. check fuel pump and also worse case senerio is the ECU (main computer could be bad)

Dodge Dakota no Bus, code 940 on Gauge!

I have a 2003 Durango 4.7 and had the same problem
The no bus code on the odometer means a faulty connection to your PCM, try turning the key to try to start it, then waiting 20-25 minutes and trying again, if it starts after that, then you need a new PCM, which is what happened to me. If it doesnt start, try waiting an hour or longer then trying it, also try replugging-in the cables to the PCM, when you look at the front of your engine, the PCM should be on the extreme left with several cables and a bracket connected.
Hope this helps!

Gauges don't work-before went out abs light would come on

it might be a fuse under the hood or fuse panel or connection to the gauges them selves
