SOURCE: 98 lesabre grinding starter

most likely your bendex wheel in the starter is not engaging the flywheel this could be due to a bad solenoid on the starter. chances are it's a bad starter, i would check to make sure all connections to starter are tight and you have atleast 11.5 -12.5 volts of current in the battery. low voltage can cause this problem as well

SOURCE: where is the starter motor on mk 4 astra

You gave no specific info about the year or make but all starters are located at rear of engine (length wise) where the engine and transmission bolt together.

SOURCE: 95 Buick lesabre making loud grinding noise when starting. Once started runs and drives fine no noises

Yes, you are probably right about the spacer or shim. A salvage yard should have lots of them for little or nothing. When you remove the starter for the spacer, check the drive gear end of the starter for severe wear. If it is chewed off very bad, have a new drive gear put on, or replace the starter.

Had same problem, turned out to be dry joint in main power relay module, when it cooled down PCB contracted and made good connection. Changed unit and all was fine.

Grinding/rubbing noise after transmission bearing repair. made a popping noise while driving at normal speed. starting making banging noise. gets louder the faster you go. changes gears fine though.

an educated guess would be that the flex plate isn't on correctly , id get it back to repair place , if flex plate is it and it falls off or breaks then input shaft will break as well !!

Hi i have a astra 53 plate a load roaring like noise has started ive checked wheels for play and noise nothing breaks all fine could it be drive shaft there was movement when i pushed it back and forth...

There is always a little movement in the driveshaft, but a drive shaft that has lost its weights and that has come off balance can cause noise and vibration, should also inspect differential as this can also cause noise and vibration

My jeep wont start It use to turn on and just shut off after a couple hrs of driving but now i cant get it off my drive way the lights and radio turn on when i try too start it but the car wont even crank...

the starter sounds like ur problem for starting the jeep since u changed the battery the computer really did not have to be changed and for the car only running for a couple hrs u might have a clog in ur fuel filter located by the gas tank under the car very easy to change once u locate it. it doe not sound like ur fuel pump cause the car does run for a couple of hours if it was the fuel pump problem it would not even run for more then 10 mins if that.

The heater motor resistor has failed. You will have to replace this part. Is located behind the glovebox assembly follow the red and brown (or red/black) wires from the motor and its a white device held in place by a torx screw in the heater assy... Hope this helps.

Won't start. Harsh grinding sound from starter

Starter has teeth that mesh with teeth on the flex plate . most of these type grinding noises are do to missing teeth on the starter gear or flex plate missing teeth .Does your vehicle have a automatic transmission ? Have you had starter replaced lately ?
