My 1999 chevy silverado 1500 four wheel drive won't engage. The truck is in 2wd now. When I push 4wd hi or low, I can hear the actuator try to engage the four wheel drive. The four hi or low button will...

You probably have a bad encoder motor. It is located on the side of the transfer case on the drivers side.It is black. The other problem they had with these was the switch but you have already replaced this so your next thing is the encoder motor.Hope this helps.Good luck.

My 2500hd s 4 wheel drive service warning is

The  actuator on the front diff or transfer case is stuck or bad. This will send a signal back and turn on the service light. In 2003 I believe the actuator is on the front differential.

I have a 2000 GMC jimmy the service four wheel drive light is on I was told it was the four drive buttons were bad switch them out and still has service four wheel drive.

The transfer case may be low on fluid. I know from experience that if the level is too low or too bad the light comes on. Either way I would have it serviced.

Two years ago my four wheel drive stopped working. I wasn't using it at the time and the dash light came on...and since then it hasn't worked. Just wondering what the problem might be?

i had a problem with the four by four light coming on all the time. I would shut the vehicle off and the warning went away. Recently I had the bearings and tie rods changed on the two front wheels, and now the four by four light does not come on anymore. Not sure if they are related, but it seems to have fixed the warning light. You might want to get your alignment checked and if it keeps going out, then it may be loose tie rods. Hope this helps.
