If it has an orange light with it this could be the engine warning light which means you need to get it looked at by your dealer as it could be a serious engine problem or it could just be a service indicator

Warning light symbol gear with ! what does it mean


Typically, The exclamation mark is in regards to the braking system. Not sure what gear thing your referring to. If you can be more specific, I may be able to find a solution to this warning light you are referring to. Thanks. Sorry couldn't be of more help at this time.

Gear box light stays on


The warning light will stay on until you rectify the problem with the box. Warning lights are not there to annoy drivers or to be ignored.

EXCLAMATION MARK CAME ON WITHIN A ROUNDED GEAR. MANUAL SAYS SHUT OFF ENGINE. EMPLOY PARK BRAKE. SHOULD RE-SET ITSELF? COMES ON EVERY THIRD START! THEY SUGGEST SENSOR IN ROTOR. OK, WHICH? COST ME A FORTUNE...


abs warning light/traction control (if fitted)also front brake pads may need checking(min thickness 2mm)
otherwise its off to halifax.......

Warning Lights Stay on.


I think your alternator went bad,or the belt broke or the battery died, All three of these are connected together.
Any thing is possible lightning could have something to do with it,I doubt it.

Gear with ! (Automatic transmission)
Yellow warning lamp = The transmission is malfuctioning. Avoid heavy loads. All of the selector lever positions can continue to be engaged; in the forward drive positions, however, the vehicle will be operating in a restricted gear range only. Have the system checked as soon as possible.

I dunno if this will work on your BMW, but on my BMW Z3 and M3, it was....

Turn the ignition key to position 2, but do NOT start the car. Wait for about 45 seconds and the brake warning message will be reset.
