Check the brake light switch for correct adjustment and operation. It is normally at the top of the brake pedal under the dash

You need to adjust/reinstall the brake light switch attached to the brake pedal

Why wont my brake lights wont turn off?

There is a switch under the dash at the brake pedal that controls the lights. Unplug it, if the lights go out, replace the switch. If they don't then you have a short somewhere that needs to be found and fixed. 99% of the time is the switch.

Brake lights wont go off

I don't know why your mechanic was at the shifter! Your brake switch is at the brake pedal. Look down above the brake pedal you'll see a plunger style swith, now either you switch popped ou or it just needds to be replace. to see if it just popped out of adjustment look athe the plunger to see if it is completly pushed in if not reach up behind the switch and pull it towards the brake pedal if it moves in and the plunger is fully depressed. verify that the brake lights are off, If not replace the switch.

Brake light on dash wont turn off

Check the brake light. It may need to be replaced or it could also be the fuse. I would check both to be sure what needs to be fixed or replaced.

Brake lights wont come on but the third brake light works

There is a separate switch for the third brake light.
Put on your flashers to ensure that your brake lights are working.
Then first look on your gas pedal linkage to locate the brake light switch.

try working the turn signal switch since brake lights are routed through it-sounds like the right turn section of ts switch isn;t disengaged

Only headlights work, 91 4dr EX

ok supaxang, could this solution be as simple as replace the 2 rear bulbs? The brake light and tail light (parking light) are the same bulb, 2 filaments, one for brakes, one for tail lights. If the the tail light filament burns out, the brake light will continue to work ok. It is quite possible that both tail lights burned out, and the brake light filaments are good and still working. Replace w/ bulb #2057. Let me know if this fixes it, if not, I'll keep working on it.
