Question about Chevrolet Venture

I changed the water pump and belt at the same time 6 months ago.., now, then i got" fill radiator" on computer screen on dash... when i take the radiator cap off of engine to check, it starts to overfill and then i cover the radiator. what do i do? the over fill container is full. Did i need to purge the radiator after i changed the water pump? If so what do i do??

    generally you can get air out of system by running at idle with cap off and heater on hot. If that does not work, you may have something else going on in there.

Take the cap off and let any excess fluid drain into a container. Don't let it run on the ground because pets and small children find antifreeze delicious but toxic, possibly fatal. Run the engine to purge any air pockets, then after the thermostat opens and the antifreeze starts running warm, top off and close the cap. Let the engine cool down and then check the level in the reservoir. If the light doesn't go off on its own, take the vehicle to one of the auto parts retailers, and have them connect it to their code reader. They can then reset the onboard computer. If the problem persists, check your temperature sensor.

01 dodge ram 1500 5.2L. Radiator was empty, filled it up and next day was empty too. No noticeable leak coming from under the truck (no puddles). I used anti-freeze and water from hose (well water) front...

it may only leak when driving..when the pressure increases. this leak could be internal as well as in a head gasket. fill it up and let it idle and get up to temp and check for leaks then.(never remove the rad cap from a hot engine)

Losing water causing overheating

My first question is make model and year.
Second, are you saying the engine is boiling over into the overflow tank and onto the ground ? Is the tank about half full when the engine is cold ?
Have you run the engine with the thermostat removed to test ?
Usually when you can hear the coolant moving around, you have air in the system and it is not full of liquid coolant.

Water Pump - Removal and Installation

3.2L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Negative battery cable Upper radiator hose Timing belt. Refer to the Timing Belt procedure. Idler pulley Water pump
To install:

Fig. Water pump torque sequence. Apply LOCTITE® 262 to bolt number 3 (arrow)-3.2L and 3.5L engines

NOTE Apply Loctite® 262 to bolt number 3 prior to installation.
  1. Install or connect the following:
    Water pump. Tighten the bolts in two passes, in sequence, to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm). Idler pulley. Torque to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm). Timing belt Upper radiator hose Negative battery cable
  2. Fill the cooling system.
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks.

3.2L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Drain the cooling system.

1994 Honda Civic LX\overheating within 2 mile drive

Remove and raise upper hose at thermostat end and remove lower rad hose.
Fill rad with a hose and watch for flow from bottom rad hose and/ or bottom rad hose connecton.......water should fall though rad easily.
Honda rads are cheap.....any restriction....replace rad.

Remove thermostat....fill thermostat housing with hose and watch for water flow at bottom rad hose.
Flush good.

Remove heater hoses.......flush back and forth until a good flow is present "With heater control set to hot" if no or poor flow....replace heater core.

Stop leak can plug everything.

Also.......not likely causing over heating....but your mileage,if you do not know if the timing belt has been changed.....CHANGE IT NOW!
Water pump is optional at this mileage.

My 04' over heating when idoling and ac is on

Fixed problem HERE........................

We changed thermostat, belts, water pump, hoses... you name it we changed it nothing worked. Just before we ordered a new radiator I took a few pics sent them to my dad and instantly he said to remove the bleeder bolt then fill radiator. That's it guys months of overheating a lot of money and hours of work when in the end it was so simple, cost nothing and took 2 mins.

Turns out most the Nissan motors have a type of bleeder bolt or something (not sure what its called exactly) on top of the motor and that should be removed while filling radiator. step 1 wait till engine is cooled down all the way. step 2 remove radiator cap. step 3 remove the bleeder bolt on top of motor (look around for it. Its just a little old bolt all alone) step 4 slowly fill radiator until coolant/water to come out of the bleeder hole. step 5 put bleeder bolt back in. step 6 put radiator cap back on. That's it. Good luck

if you do not do these steps air get caught in the system and when heated turns to steam. and your radiator cant circulate that steam because the hot air raises. The steam will just sit at the top of the motor and block the coolant/water from circulating through the radiator like it should. Without it passing through the radiator correctly it will not cool. Having a new radiator helps because when they installed it they probably filled it correctly (by removing that bleeder bolt). They knew they could have just filled the old one correctly but there isn't any $$$money$$$ in that for them. trimble7383_0.jpg

Screen on dash says "coolent low".

Sounds like a bad thermostat. A malfunctioning thermostat will back up coolant into the overflow. BTW, are you experiencing any problems with the heat or AC? This would also be an indicator that the thermostat is faulty.

Sounds like a blown coolant hose, or a faulty coolant water pump.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee : Replaced Water Pump and Drive Belt now Jeep won't start?

When you replaced the Water Pump, did you replace the Timing Belt? Any time you replace a Water Pump you have to replace the timing belt because it stretches out. If you did not then most likely your Engine is out of time and there for will not start, but it will turn over. hope this helps, good luck.
