Question about Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

The automatic release of emergency brake by putting my 1990 Cadillac S/DV into gear will not work(I've had to use the release next to the brake instead to do so): Is this a vacuum system, or a cable? Is it expensive to repair, or can somebody like Pep Boys do it? How much $$$?

Verify its connected, then remove it, depress the arm on the diaphragm with one hand while sealing the nipple where the hose connects with the other, if the diaphragm is leaking, the arm will not stay retracted. If it does stay retracted, then I would trace the hose for a kink or split. The release diaphragm is usually the culprit and rather a bugger to change. Good luck.

Otherwise there is a switch mounted on the steering column, under the dash which is in the parking brake release circuit which is where I would look next if the vacuum system is fine.

The cost of first finding the problem and then fixing it will vary on your area plus depending on what may need to be replaced. hoses are pretty cheap but other things will be more. I'd say you check it first if you feel comfortable doing so, otherwise I'd give a range of $50-$300 for going somewhere possibly but again it depends on where you go and where you live.

2001 cadillac sls parked on sloping driveway with emergency brake on. Emergency brake will not release when car turned on and put in gear. Will not release by pulling down on yellow brake release lever...

There is likely a siezed cable or caliper, possibly because the hand brake hasn't been used regularly.Jack up the rear of the car,see which wheel,or both are stuck. The cable(s) will then need to be cut close to the wheel,or possibly hammered back.

1992 seville.how do i release emergency brake

You push it with your foot, like you did when you set it, and it will release, or when you put the car in gear, it will release automatically.

Emergency brake is engaged and i cant figure out how to release it? its a 1989 cadillac sedan deville

Hello, Look up under the dash next to the inside of the car, between the foot pedal for the park brake assembly, on the park brake assembly there should be a short lever, it may even be yellow on the end. pull it back toward you, that should release the park brake. The System is suppose to release automatically when you put the car in gear. It works off vacuum, the switch is mounted on top of the steering column and the actuator is mounted on the park brake assembly

How do you release the emergency brake on a 1986 Cadillac Deville?

It is vacuum operated and there is also a release handle, down next to the brake pedal

Your cables will be rusted and not functioning, also

Emergency brake stuck

Brake cables are probably seized as they do when not used regularly. You have to disconnect them and replace with new ones which requires removal of both rear wheels.Go here for the procedure.
