My 1991 Grand Marquis will NOT go into park, it keeps rolling what can I do?

Could be a problem with the key lock cylinder.
You could disconnect the shift cable and try shifting the lever on the transmission. That would tell you if it is a shift lever problem or something inside the trans.

WHY CAN'T I SHIFT MY 1997 GRAND MARQUIS OUT OF PARK AND INTO ANY GEAR?

You may have a faulty Break-light switch. If the switch is bad, then it will behave as if you have no breaks afa the shift-lever is concerned.

2000 mercury grand marquis sloppy shift

If your transmission is not shifting properly, then you probably also have an"OD OFF" light (if equipped) and/or a "CHECK ENGINE " light that is illuminated or blinking. If this is the case, then you need to scan your onboard computer network to retrieve fault codes that will lead you to the cause of the problem.

Shifting lever is sloppy and can't get it into park. Play around with it to start car . Is there an adjustment for the cable on the transmission?

There is an adjustmant but that is not the problem. The problem is the two bolts that hold the shift cable bracket to the steering column. They are #30 torqx and a little hard to get to, you will need to get under the dash and wiggle the shifter to identify the shift cable and baracket.Tighten the two bolts and all should be good.
