If you do not say what the code is then the experts cannot advise the reason the light came on.

I have a 1999 Jeep cherokee with a 4.0 liter engine. It would not start. There was no check engine light. OBDII check no codes found. I have changed the ignition coil, spark pickup module, and the c

Hi there:
It's definately the next logical step since P1391 is for CMP (Camshaft) or CKP (Crankshaft) sensor loss. The cam sensor is available seperately, it's extremely easy to change, you don't even have to pull the distributor. Just take the cap and rotor off then pull the cam sensor out.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Check Light & Codes for What?

You look up the codes, diagnose the system
the codes point to

I don't know what codes you had or why the O2
Sensors were replaced

Codes don't tell you to replace anything

Have you not gone to a repair shop to have
whatever the problems are properly solved?

How to get the engine codes on a 1997 Honda accord?

Easiest thing is to go to Autozone as they have a hand held scanner that they'll pull codes for FREE!!! Yep, it's a great service. The most common type of codes are for catalytic converter (low flow catalyst) or even more commonly the oxygen sensor.

For this car the OBD plug may be behind the ashtray. This will need to be pulled out to access the plug.

Some times even just clearing the code will be helpful. When the scanner is connected, ask the Autozone tech to clear the codes for you. See if it comes back. Some times the computers get a little tempermental and flip on a light and they don't come back on. It's worth a shot. If it comes back on then you may need a repair.
Also, has your engine been maintained, ie-tuneups? Poor plaugs SOMETIMES MAY cause the check engine light to come on.

Was there a Check Engine light? When a 'check engine light' (MIL=Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is turned on, there is a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) set/stored in the ECM/PCM (Engine Control Module/Powertrain Control Module). This code identifies which engine management system component/function experienced a malfunction. Once you pull/read this code, you may begin diagnosis.

When check engine lights come on, the one thing you don't want to do is go to a mechanic. Go to somewhere like autozone, where they pull the codes for free and tell you what the problem actually is, instead of what they feel like charging you for. Go get the code pulled and that will tell you what the problem is. Then you can either fix it yourself or have someone else fix it

2006 envoy xl check engine light on. the service department said it was a bad battery. could that be the problem?

Could be, although I'm not aware of a specific code that exists that says bad battery. Envoys and Trailblazers need a lot of juice and if the battery is starting to go, look for more codes and problems to pull up with that check engine light. Did they give you a specific code? When the check engine light comes on, it's telling you that there is a code stored and will point to the problem. Code will almost always start with PXXXX

If you don't have a code reader yourself, take it to a place like Autozone that will check it for free and give you a printout of the code. Let me know if you need more help.

Engine light blinking and it runs rough and sound like a lawn mower and back fires in front of car

Don't drive it when the light blinks, could cause damage. You may have a bad coil, we have 6 of them. Have someone check the code that the light is pulling. Need an OBD II code checker.

Speedometer and Odometer not working , Break Light and Abs light on

Most likely you have a check engine light on also. And if you have codes pulled it will be 0500, speed sensor. Replace the one on the rear axle and all should be good. Oh and don,t forget to have code cleared.
