It sounds as if you have a vacuum leak. It could be at the hose for the power brakes, pcv valve or the EGR Valve hose leaking. You may also have a bad fuel pressure regulator. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

SOURCE: car wont stay running unless foot is on the gas

Withoutknowing if the check engine light is on it could be a variety of things including but not limited to the o2 sensor, throttle positioning sensor, and the MAF and MAP sensors. Best diagnosed by using an OBDII scanner to scan for codes. If no codes are present I would then check for the pressure coming from the fuel pump to make sure it is still functioning.

Might be the IAC...a good way to test this is while idling if possible, turn on the rear defroster. The rpm's should pick up. If the engine stalls at this point or the rpm's don't increase...replace it.

I put in another battery in my 2000 dogde it wont idle on its own.

Robert, You may have to try this relearn procedure.
Warm the engine, but hold your foot on the throttle as necessary to keep the engine running.
  1. With vehicle in Park, slowly release the throttle so that the engine will idle on its own. You may have to work at this a bit.
  2. Let the engine idle on its own for about one minute.
  3. Continue to let the engine idle and with your foot on the brake, place the transmission in Drive and let the engine idle for another minute.
  4. Continue to let the engine idle with your foot on the brake and the transmission in Drive. Turn the A/C on and let the engine idle for another minute with the A/C compressor running.
  5. Turn the ignition off and wait a minute. Check the attached links,

Some models have to be retaught how to idle once the battery dies, so you need to start the truck and feather the gas peddle to keep it running and do this for a few minutes, the computer has to relearn how to idle the engine.

99 grand prix keeps stalling, mechanic diagnostic cannot find anything wrong

if the engine runs smoothly when feathering the gas, dies when u let off the gas --may be the iac (idle air control) just something to try, remove it, clean the pintle and also clean where it seats inside the throttle me it seems as if the iac is going bad----hope that helped you!!

Mx6 not running right

there is an idle valve on the throttle body. it opens to keep a cold engine running, then closes when the engine warms up. if it sticks open, car will run good for a few seconds then stall the warmer it gets
