Installed new brake booster on 2004 ford escape and bled brakes now brake lights won't go out there is no way to adjust brake pedal sensor

IF there is a sender unit in the side of the master cylinder then screw it out and then replace it as it may be stuck out between pistons in the master cylinder.

Did you put fresh fluid in the master cylinder? I really think you still have air in the lines. To bleed manually, start with the bleeder the greatest distance from the master cylinder, car running, helper pushing down about half way on brake pedal and releasing 3 times, on 3rd time, holding pedal down to half way depressed point while you open the bleeder valve. Repeat until you are sure all air has been flushed out. Check master cyl reservoir level often, because if it gets low and you **** air into the system, you have to start all over again. Go to wheel next greatest distance from master cyl, repeat above, working your way to wheel closest to master cyl last.

SOURCE: 1997 FORD F250 XLT 4WD - Had a hard brake pedal with hardly any brakes while standing on them. Replaced booster and wheel cylinders at same time now the pedal is mushy and no brakes.

They need to be bleed again all four wheels but your vacuum pump may be bad since diesels don't have vacuum then have to have a pump, check that the booster one way check valve is good if you can blow thew it both ways it's bad, to bleed start from the wheel farthest away from the master cylinder pump the brakes 5 times and hold down then open the bleed valve keep doing this until you get clear fluid out of each wheel once you have done that if it is still mushy and you know you have vacuum re bleed with engine running this will help push more out with power assist. most like the hard brake pedal had to do with no vacuum check out the pump. You may also have to reset the 2 way check valve if you need help with this let me know.

you need a new master cyclinder..you needed to open the brake line before you forced the caliper back in ,,,otherwise you force the fliud the wrong way though the master cylinder and ruin the internals

Hydraulic system, suspect bad master cylinder and/or booster. Check brake fluid level. Have brake system pressure bled and complete system checked.

for the pedal to go to the floor there is still air in the brake system. Start again starting from the longest line bleeding each in turn to the shortest line . make sure you have adjusted up the rear brakes before bleeding as every time you press on the pedal the shoes expand right out and when you take your foot off the pedal the shoes go all the way back in. adjust them manually and do not rely on the self adjuster as it only adjusts on wheel movement

Replacing brake booster in 2001 escape the push rod in the new booster appears to be too short are they adjustable?


Not that I am aware of. My book on the 2001-2007 Escape does not indicate any adjustment in that push rod. double check the part number against the part number that should be installed by calling another parts store and asking if they have the part and then compare the number they give you with the number you have. Make sure the brands are the same. The problem you may have is that a lot of stores assume that all parts in these year models are interchangeable between the Escape and Mazda Tribute. In fact many are since both vehicle were built in the same factory with very few differences. In fact the repair manuals usually list both vehicles in the same book.

I would go with not bled correctly

The booster should hold up with a hard pedal until
you start the engine, then vacuum causes it to move
down when pressing on the brake

Have a 90 dodge dakota bad booster, i changed the brake booster and bled master cylinder. still need to assemble the drum brakes but the brake light is staying on. i read up and pushed the brake light...


You sure you have the correct booster
Or use the same rod
You should not have to bleed anything,you
didn't open the brake system
Now you need to bleed all 4 corners,never
the master,that is a myth.

Ever consider the engine has to be running for
the booster (vacuum remember) to work,
and you can not bleed the brakes without
the engine running as you have to have
someone push the brake pedal thus the booster

the rear brakes shouldn't be apart if your pumping
the pedal,now you screwed up the brake switch position

Just replaced master cylinder on 1990 aerostar and bled the brakes, still the pedal goes to floor and i have no brakes


Did you bench bleed the master cyl. before installing it? then when you installed the new master, did you bleed all 4 points? If yes, then check all for points for leaking caliper/s and leaking wheel cylinder/s. If the van has ABS, check the valve body for a bleeder screw and see if air bleeds out of it. If you've checked everything twice and did everything right then your new master cyl. may be defective.
