SOURCE: I have to drive with my high beams on because my low's don't work

Check your bulbs. My car came with the wrong bulbs in place. You need 9007 bulbs. My car - the daytime runners worked until I turned on my headlights. When I turned them off the daytime indicator on the dash would flash. The low beams when on were very dim and the high beam indicator on the dash would be on regardless if the high beams were lit or not. I checked everything until I looked up the proper replacement bulb to find the previous owner had the wrong bulbs in the car. Problem solved.

SOURCE: Generic problem for all Pontiac Sunfire Cars

Check the Pink wire for high beams and the Dark Blue wire for low beams. Common locations for wiring problems are behind the headlights, under the battery tray. Check for a corroded wiring harness connector or wires at this location. If the wires or connections are found to be corroded, repair or replace the wire or connector as necessary.

Pontiac sunfire overheating

hello! I had the same problem with my 2000 Pontiac Sunfire... there might be one of these 2 problems with it.... maybe the Heater Core is jammed and the coolant dosen't flow thru the engine to cool it off, or the water pump is defective.... does the heating works or not? if yes, the water pump is defect, if not, the heater core is jammed, try a ''radiator hose cleaner'' (sold in Napa's or Carquest..) it will act as a kind of ''decloaker''.. if works, good! 15$ solution... if not, replace Heater Core... ~150$

The water pump was replaced, thermostat replaced, car spews water from the overflow tube and emptys the water from the engine!

Probably either head gasket blown, or crack in head or block. Have you had the engine hot lately? Look for white smoke out of exhaust that will confirm head gasket or cracked block or head.

2000 pontiac sunfire coolant pours out from the passenger side only when the car stops not when driving and the car is overheating, i only bought this car 2 days ago and they guy said all that it needed...

Sounds like you bought a complete lemon. Most states have lemon laws where if there are untold problems previous owner must pay to fix or buy vechile back. As for the current problem, hopefully it's just a water pump causing car to overheat. Piece of advice, always take car to a mechanic before buying. Might cost you $40 to do so, but better then paying for unexpected problems.

1997 Sunfire overheating

Did hubby put the thermostat in the right way round? Is the car driving ok no excessive smoke or steam as these cars are famous for the cylinder head gasket going south this would explain no coolant and the overheating? Does the electric fan come on? Look into the dipstick and see if there is any white mixture around it looks like mayo that’s an indication of water in the oil. Fill the radiator up again and let the car idle with the overflow tank cap of this will allow any trapped air to bleed of and help with any vapor lock. Did hubby make sure he scrapped all the old water pump gasket of the block before he put the new gasket and water pump on? If the surface was uneven e.g. old gasket still stuck on the block it would not seal correctly and leak hope this helps

2000 pontiac sunfire 2.4L twin cam. When put in drive I hear a loud bang and when driving it has a quieter bang when it shifts gears.

Check your motor mounts, it sound like your motor is rocking back and forth. You can confirm this by watching the engine while someone shifts it in and out of gear for you.

Black smoke

black smoke out of exhaust? if so, piston rings or maybe valve or vavle seats. For piston rings, motor needs to be rebuilt. For valves, neads a valve job. Either way, big money.
