It could be your battery , sometimes if your battery is not fully charged then it wont send enough current to the starter. To test this either use a battery charger or jumper cables coming from another vehicle and see if it starts.Otherwise it is your starter.
Tap on the starter sometimes this will dislodge the problem with the windings in it. If that still doesn't work then you will have to replace your starter.

My car won't start but I don't think it's battery. When I turn the key to start it up the radio comes on and all of the lights, but when I crank it up it sounds like a clicking noise. What's wrong?

year, make, model, engine size?

If it is a rapid repeating clicking noise when the key is in the crank position than it is almost always the battery. If it is a single click every time you try to start it is almost always a bad starter.

Hey,

You can try another battery if you have one, or take the battery to be tested somewhere to see if its at fault

Thanks,

Check battery connections and battery fuse. Battery may not be large enough for the size of your van

I have a 1990 Laser RS Turbo. Won't start, no spark at plugs but spark at coil. I hear a rapid clicking sound behind the radio on the passenger but all the time. When I try to start it it just turns...

normally a quick clicking sound means that the battery is low in voltage and amperage, but first check your connectors and the battery posts to make sure they are clean and secure. if you have a tester, check for voltage at the battery, you should be getting 12 volts or more.if you have 12 volts+,turn on the headlights and test the battery to see if it is retaining 12 volts or not, this is known as a load test. if voltage falls rapidly your battery should be changed.if it holds charge pretty well, than put thr battery on slow charge overnight and retry starting the vehicule.nb. the clicking noise is caused by the onboard computer that reads the voltage before startup and under 11.5 volts your car will make this sound.if your car starts put the tester on the battery again and check voltage,it should be 13volts or higher which means your alternator is charging the battery.

2004 ion won't start. Lights work. When I turn key don't get series of clicks, get one snap.

That symptom usually means the solenoid on the starter is bad and no longer is completing the circuit to engage the starter. A new starter will likely solve that issue. A series of rapid clicks would indicate a week battery. You can try repeatedly turning the key to the start position rapidly, sometimes the starter wil start working. You can also try tapping the starter while somebody holds the key in the start position, if the starter engages place it.

Car won't start. Makes a rapid clicking noise when ignition is in start position

The rapid clicking noise is caused by low battery voltage, you eiother have rub the battery down or the battery is defective or the battery cables are loose or corroded

Won;t start makes rapid clicking noise

Sounds to be a loose battery terminal or battery wire lead. Verify that the headlights are bright when turned on if so battery is not dead.

Starter clicks rapidly, not cranking, no ignition

It almost sounds like you have a loose connection at the battery. If the connection is loose it can cause the starter to click as you have described. Also it could be the starter itself. If the starter is bad (locked up) it can make the clicking noise and not start the engine. If you can get to the starter, try to tap on it with a hammer while someone is trying to start the engine. I hope this helps.
