05 Nissan Altima 4.2l replaced valve cover, gasket, and spark plugs looks fine with no leaks and engine runs fine, now I have lots of white smoke at start up which goes away once engine is warm.

White smoke indicates water going through your engine or condensation in your exhaust. If it is a lot of smoke you probably have a small leak in your head gasket that seals back up as the engine warms and the materials expand. It will get worse as time goes on. If it's just a little smoke that doesn't last long it's probably condensation in your exhaust, especially if it's cold outside. Condensation is caused by the air cooling down in your exhaust after you shut down the engine.

Smoke came out from the engine oil deepstick

NO worries about the smoke if there is no excessive smoke, the smoke is just internal pressure that the engine makes and is vented through the PVC valve and back into the intake. When you take the dip stick out, you give the excess gasses another way out of the engine other then the PVC lines.

Once again, NO worries unless there is signs or engine issues such as ruff idle and excessive smoke coming out from the tail pipe.

Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

Service engine light-evap code, any common places to look???

In order to find that requires what is called a smoke machine. The evap is a very low pressure system, and a leak is almost impossible to detect. The smoke machine puts a low pressure stream of smoke into the system through a port in the engine compartment and then you follow the lines back to the tank, generally with a light to see the smoke coming out.

Hope this helps

Engine misfire

White smoke usually indicated it's burning antifreeze. Check your antifreeze level and oil condition before anything.

Engine light is on smoke test revealed vacuum leak at back of eng

Vacuum boot comes off of the intake manifold at rear of engine, passenger side. Super hard to get to. you cannot see it. You have to do it by feel. After a startup backfire, mine popped off. My mechanic couldn't find it, but a smoke test of the vacuum system confirmed it was coming out between firewall, and intake. It took me @ an hour to find it. Pushed it back on and it works great.
