How to change trans fluid on 1997 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4 127000 miles

Don't worry about the lines unless excessive sludge and debris is found during pan removal. Drop the pan, inspect , wipe clean, replace filter and fill with fluid. This service is recommended every 50k.

1994 940 SE automatic Not down shifting

First and formost I realy think you have a vacume leak. I would start replacing all the small vacume lines instead of checking everyone of them. Its quicker and not very expensive. After that I would also check your trans filter. If you go to AAMCO they have a program that will power flush the trans and filter and every year after that they will change the fluid for free. The other thing that could be causing the problem, is the bands in your trnas just need to be adjusted. When you remove the filter there are some bolts that need to be properly adjusted, you need to find out the correct settings and not just nilly willy do this. but the three things I have told you to do will most likely fix the problem. If they don't you have a larger problem and need to take it in for a real inspection. Trans are not easy to work on at all.

if this is an automatic the fluid should be changed along with the filter every 60,000 miles, if it is a manual trans there is no factory recommended fluid change unless the trans is torn down for repair.

My car seems to mimic a cough on the highway and i am figuring it is either the Trans. Slipping or a fuel filter. the cheaper fix would be the furl filter but i am not sure. any idea's? it's a Grand Am...

i had a car that sounded like it was sneezing once it turned out to be a pluged exhaust. if you have a vacuum guage hook it to your manifold and watch the needle. rev the engine if it falls slowly towards 0 and hovers then you have a blocked exhaust
