Question about 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

My 1999 chevy blazer has a battery drain. I bought a new battery and had to jump start it the next morning. Alternator is charging. Traced it to the a/c compressor. When fuse to compressor is removed...no drain. What would cause the compressor to drain the battery?

A short on the wiring that goes to the compressor , by removing the fuse you have broken the loop and stopped your short to ground.

2005 chevy equinox changed battery and alternator and still drains battery the next day or two

First are you sure the alternator is charging the battery ?
If it is, someone will need to pull fuses and disconnect major circuits until you find the drain. It could be a simple relay, or a short to ground in the harness somewhere.

Chevy van g20 year 1994 the battery dies has new battery and new alternator but each morning its dead need to charge the battery need help have any ideas and please talk problem please

Does the battery light work when you switch the ignition on? This provides a live feed to the alternator via the ignition bulb, the rotor needs a live feed to start the charge process, if the bulb has blown it won't charge (thin wire connected to the IND on the alternator). To check for a power drain, disconnect the negative battery lead put a AMP meter in series, (DON'T TRY TO START, YOU WILL BLOW THE METER). If you get a reading above 0.05amps (clock) you have a drain, pull the fuses one at a time and watch for a drop in the meter reading. Hope this helps.

I have a 1998 hyundai coupe 1599cc the engine cuts out when idling and i have to jump start it or wait for about half an hour before it will start again

This sounds like a battery or alternator problem.

Lets start with the battery, just because the car starts in the morning does not mean the battery is good, A bad battery will start the car and as car is running and drawing power out of the battery the battery which is getting charged back up from the alternator but if battery is bad and not accepting the charge this will do a few things.
First it will cause damage to the alternator because , the alternator will try to charge the battery with no result and so it keeps charging at high rates and heats up and causes damage to itself , the next thing is battery loses voltage slowly until it does not have enough voltage to keep engine going , inturn engine stalls out,
I would start by first having the battery tested by a shop with a battery tester, the next thing is the alternator , have that tested.

Your problem will be a bad alternator or battery. good day.

Battery drains in about a day while car is not on, not battry, not alternator, mechanic says both are good. traced drain to fuse panel junction fuse but not sure how that helps

disconnect one fuse every night with a fully charge battery until you have a fully charged battery the next morning or take it to a repair shop

My Chevy blazer wouldn't start mad a clicking

this is one of two problems (maybe both) ...
1. The battery has been fully discharged before, preventing it from being able to hold a charge properly. This can be tested at a Sears Automotive Center. If the battery is no good, get a replacement and you should be fine (at least for a while). If you are going to go to Sears, have them run a full electrical diagnostic -- if there is something draining your battery while the car is not in use changing the battery will only hide the problem for a few months until the new battery fully discharges, and the same issue with resurface.
2. Your alternator is not charging the battery. It might be pumping out electricity to the wiring that it is connected to, but the charge may not be getting all the way to the battery. Sears can also check this with their diagnostic tools, and should be able to locate and repair the problem for you. Unfortunately, without a VERY expensive diagnostic machine, it is very hard to tell exactly where the problem is occurring .. so taking it in to a shop is probably your best bet.

New battery , wires and plugs and still have trouble starting in the mornings, get a jump and starts. After running vehicle for awhile I turn it off and try starting it it will start.

check alternator output with engine running.you should have 13.5 - 14.5 volts if not alternator not charging.check alternator wiring to battery feed to alternator.check alternator voltage regulator wiring check alternator fuse make drive belt not slipping.and you have the correct cold cranking amp battery.bad old worn out battery cables will cause charging problems.because old battery cables put high resistance on the charging circuit.if battery cables old as vechicle replace them.

1999 chevy blazer battery drain won't start until jumped 1st thing in morning then runs all day no problem but next day won't start again. Already replaced battery, starter, ignition switch, etc.

Sounds like the alternator to me.If you have an autozone nearby, they will perform a battery/alternator test for free.Another thing it could be is your serpentine belt.If the tensioner is not pulling it tight,or if it is worn and stretched, that would easily cause it but would probably cause other symptoms which may be so minor, they are barely noticeable, but nevertheless noticeable. It would be weak breaking,a little harder steering, but very rarely gets loose. At least check the belt for tightness before having the test.If you are not sure about it,simple ask the person doing the battery/alternator test if you can get it done. They have decent knowledge and will help so you keep coming back.If you want a second opinion about the belt,go to a AAA approved shop if you are in the USA.They are honest dependable shops. If you have any questions or need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.I really encourage responses so I can follow up properly as I know where you stand and asking someone else restarts all the explaining because we cannot see other 'Expert's' responses.Good luck,Greg

Car intermitantly will not start..make a click noise but not a click click noise it was jumped one day...seemed fine ...next morning started...next day would not start...my neighbor jumped it said it might...

Check the battery first, if it is ok you probably have a bad starter. If the battery is drained, you need to charge and test the battery and alternator.
