Question about Ford Explorer
The cam shaft sensor should be located on the front of the drivers side of the engine head just below the valve cover.. might be a bracket hiding it but it should be their look for a wiring going to the front of that left side front head.... hope it helps

SOURCE: Crank sensor and camshaft sensor
The crank sensor is in the top of bell housing of the transmission towards the back of the engine compartment. The cam sensor is built into the distributor.

At the right rear of the engine under the intake manifold and to the left of the oil filter. You will probably need to go under the car to spot it, it's the sensor with a three-wire connector arranged vertically. But you can take it out from above. It's held in with a single bolt with an eight MM head located just above the sensor. Un-clip and remove the electrical connector. Unscrew the bolt with a socket wrench & extension bar. Wiggle and pull the sensor out.
