Heater blows cold air ,engine temperature is normal

Most likely your heater core is bad. First cheap alternative repair is flush the system. Second cheap repair is to run a garden hose both ways through the heater core. Disconnect both the hoses and blow it out back and forth, do not use a clamp or tight connection for this as you may blow a hole in the core. If no go then out comes the dashboard and in goes a new core. Stay away from GM dealers on this, try and find a shop which does nothing but heater and A/C as they are fast at pulling dashboards out.

Trouble starting my 1992 diesel surf, taking to long to fire, What should I start looking at first?

your heater plugs one or two might be faulty
dont try to start it when heater light goes out wait for 20 or 30 seconds more and then try start .reason for this is the heater plugs are still heating after light goes out and therefore more heat for cold start goodluck

Loud thump coming from dashboard heater motor at start up and shu

There is air in your engine cooling system. Check your coolant level at the radiator and make sure you do it when it's cold, don't want you to get burnt from hot antifreeze. Add a 50/50 water/antifreeze mix if the radiator is low and place the radiator cap back on, but only on the first click and top off the coolant over flow canister with the 50/50 mix also. Start the engine and place the heater on high and go for a test drive to ensure you get the engine warmed up to allow the thermostat to open up. After you get back from your test drive before you turn the engine off, close off the radiator cap to the second click. Make sure you wear gloves or have a cloth so you don't burn your self due to the hot radiator cap. If the cap is not hot, then you have not circulated all of the coolant through the engine. This should get the air out of the system and keep an eye on your coolant level in the over flow tank and top off as needed according to the proper level indicated on the tank it self. Good luck and keep me posted.

Why the preheating light sometimes is on on cold engine and sometimes off on warm

I'm going to assume you has the diesel version of the Sprinter.

Diesel is just like a good old COX airplane engine.

The engine need to heat up by glow plugs.

You need to turn the key to on position and let the glow plug relay to energize the glow plugs for 5-X numbers of seconds all depend on the temperature.

The temp. sensor on the engine block will take all the guess work out for you.

When the dash indicator goes out then your are ready to start.

This is the correct procedure to start an diesel engine.

Please disregard this post if you has a gasoline version of the Spiniter.
