Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 2007 Dodge charger. It starts when it wants to (not every time). When it doesn't start, it does not make a crank noise. It sounds as if a computer is turning on, just a faint "errrrr"and nothing. At first I was able to turn the key about 5/6 times and out would eventually turn over but now it just turns over when it wants to. My car codes coming up are P0153 and P0420 & P0430. I know 420 and 430 are my cat converter (my check engine light is on for that). Could P0153 be my crank shift sensor or is it possible the code is only coming up because of my cat? (Not sure if this is coincidence our not, but my car seems to start perfect in rainy weather.)

You may have a failing starter, possibly in addition to the other problems you mention

SOURCE: car wont start...sometimes

Sounds like a bad starter solenoid, usually cheapest and easiest to replace the starter and solenoid as a unit. It is always best to check for power between the solenoid and the starter with a test light, if the solenoid clicks but the test light doesn't light up you have found the problem in the solenoid.

My 2007 charger just cut off while I was driving down the road it will turn but will not catch or crank

The first thing that must be done is to run a fault code test through the diagnostic connector with a fault coder reader.

Charger clicking noise

Low battery, or poor connection. Clean and tighten battery connections, with a solution of baking soda and water for any corrosion. Check battery voltage- if under 12 volts, needs charging.

My 2007 dodge charger didn't crank so I jumped it

A battery from 07 is still decently new to be that bad, but I would check the alternator first, just get the car running and unhook the positive cable from the battery, if the car dies the alternator is bad.

I have a 2008 dodge charger se. I try to start it and it wont start in park. I place it in neutral and it takes a few times to finally get it to crank. I replace the solenoid relay already and reset the...

The Neutral safety switch in the Transmission is the problem. If it doesn't send the signal to the computer when it is in park it won't crank over. Replace the Neutral safety switch and the problem should be resolved. Make sure you check the linkage for proper adjustment if you have a center console shift. That doesn't actually connect directly to the transmission except through a linkage and it may show to be in park but not actually be fully engaging in park. Sometimes you can turn the lower part of the steering column by hand to get it to lock fully in park if this is the case with your situation then for sure it is the linkage being out of adjustment.

Sounds like starter isn't disengaging, get that checked pronto, you could be damaging the flywheel (very expensive). Could be any appliance also; a/c compressor, idler pully, alternator, etc. Don't wait.
